Probably the ride is better than destination?
We set out by Dolmus to see the amphitheatre at Bodrum. However we missed the stop so decided to stay on the Dolmus and see Gumbet. Cost 15TL each. Gumbet is a one way road system so there was no obvious place to get off as…to be honest…it was a bit naff and seemed to have lost its roots and now catering to the tourist euro. Lots of snide clothing shops and general tourist tat.

    Gumbët local shops
We had a good few bargins from the local shops, we were able to haggle, and most didn't hassle you. However, one shop in particular made me feel very intimidated. Mister bond, I told him I was willing to browse, but I did find some nice T shirts, and my son found a few things he liked. When we asked about the price, it was extortionate, and considering they are replica products, we refused to pay and tried to haggle. To cut a long story short, we made a swift exit, only to be called names and his colleagues trying to stop us from getting out, with the items getting stuffed into a bag and them chasing us for the money. Hence, we never returned to that shop. Thankfully, we found another shop down the road, no hassle, and for less. All the other shops were great and no trouble at all. But I muched preferred the markets.

    Too noisy
Too noisy, banging music every night. Ideal for the younger generation but not us old fuddy dudes. Saying that the restaurants are fabulous, beach is lovely, sunbeds free if you purchase food and drinks there. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper

Truly awful! Been here many times but made the mistake of staying more central this time . The noise ( cannot call it music) is horrific until sometimes as late as 4am!! Truly hell on earth . I suppose a certain type of person might find it fun ( seem to me an awful lot of overly tattooed Brits here ). How they allow this to noise to go on so late is beyond me . An over priced noisy dirty place with pushy rude shop workers.. Never again .

Gumbet is a short bus ride from where we stayed in Bodrum. The sea is mucky along the shore and quite shallow until you go quite a way out where it becomes cleaner. To stay on a sunbed you have to buy drinks from a nearby restaurant. The beaches are overcrowded and quite dirty. Quite a few stray dogs around but locals filled buckets of water for them and they were well fed. The further you walk the dirtier it gets, where we went there was a big shanty camp with lots of people sitting around on the floor washing their clothes in buckets and begging, very sad to see.

Attache tours based in Bodrum/Gumbet don't have a TripAdvisor, with good reason. They sold us a quad safari for £15.00 each with the promise of having our money back if we didn't like it. The place we went to was a run down disgusting farm, with quads and buggies that were falling to bits. Every single person who went broke down at some point. Several wheels fell off quads whilst driving, breaks and steering failed, several people crashed and we had to wait for over an hour to get the transfer bus back. When we told them the man who sold us the tour he said "well if you think you're getting your money back you're wrong, why would I refund you from my own pocket?" After three days and several phone calls between hotel management and the tour guide he gave us £100 out of £150 back. On the website quad tours aren't offered, only jeep safaris which makes us wonder if he should have been selling them at all.

We have booked this trip with Attache Tours to visit the ruins of Ephesus but we spent more time in two shops (3 hours!) than in the ruins. Those stops were not specified in the plan nor in the reservation voucher.

They treat you as you were a cash machine. The objective of the trip is to spend money in places that nobody asked to visit: First, they bring you to a jewelry shop and you have to stay there 1 hour 30 minutes doing nothing. After that, in the hottest hours of the day, they bring you to the archeological site. After lunch you lose another 1:30h in a ceramic shop.

When we politely told the guide that we were not satisfied with the trip, he answered us rudely saying “I don’t want to see your face anymore” and asking to cancel the other trips we have booked, but without giving back our money! Furthermore he made an inappropriate comment referring to our nationality.

Gumbet popular holiday resort so decided to go for a week big mistake got there as usual late at night so it wasn't until the next morning we got out and about and how disappointed we were the centre of town is so dirty rubbish every where old empty buildings and at night just full of young drunk girls and local waiters on heat who if not pawing at anything that moves hassle you every time you pass there bar we decided to head down the beach and it would have been nice to see it but its covered in sun loungers right down to the waters edge from each hotel ,bar or restaurant so there is only a narrow board / sandy walkway along the front which between all the people and the dozens of stray dogs its sometimes hard to get along the whole town centre is literally same old shops selling there counterfeit gear to which you run the usual gauntlet of hassle trying to pull you into there shops to buy if stray animals disturb you then be ready to be upset as the town is literally crawling with dogs and large families of cats roaming the dirty streets food was generally good and EFFES Is EFFES always a good lager weather was great which made it ok apart from that not much else good to say about the town so been once NEVER AGAIN and have spoken to a few people who have been there in the past and been again this year and WON'T GO BACK AGAIN SAME THING FILTHY AND RUN DOWN

Over the past 15 years we have been to Gumbet 8 times it's a great place with something for everybody.

If you like the idea of Turkey but not sure of the busy resorts like Marmaris then give Gumbet/ Bodrum a try.
It has lots of shops, bars and restaurants, beaches and water sports and boat trips.
Gumbet is a place where if you want somewhere with a good mixture of busy and quiet, bar street and that area has the busier part in Gumbet with plenty of bars shops etc open until early hours of the morning, night clubs or karaoke bars it has it all. Or if you prefer a quiet drink and meal there are lots of places you can go to be away from the busier parts, Alfiemoons can be found 5 mins from bar street where you can have a nice quiet meal and drink in a lovely run family restaurant. The hotels down this end are also quieter.
There are plenty of mini markets where you can get pretty much everything you need and several pharmacies dotted about if needed.
You can walk from one end of the beach to the other and at sunset it's a lovely place to be, nearby Bitez also has a nice beach.
All the shops are friendly and not too pushy but always willing to haggle so lots of bargains to be had.
Only 20-30 transfer time from Bodrum airport.
A great place with lots to do and lovely people. Well worth a visit.

Really disappointed by this resort. It is clearly struggling as it was the end of May and extremely quiet. As you walked along you are accosted by every shop (where are you from? is usually the question to get you to start talking) They are all struggling due to the Turkish economy and the after effects of Covid. People told us that prices had gone up 50% from last year.
It seems they have decided that the way forward to encourage people to visit is to allow several open air night clubs to bellow a lot of noise (aka Turkish music). It means staying in places where you may not get to sleep until 1.30 every night when that stops. There are many places in Europe which provide that and are far superior. I was told a lot of Turkish men go to these places so women should heed the warning.
The beaches are nothing special and apart from a lot of bars and restaurants there is little else. This used to be a popular resort, probably as it was cheap, but now that has gone, it no longer has anything to offer. There are plenty of better Turkish resorts.

Re; Complaint made to you on 4th October 2013 in Travel Shop Kilkenny

My wife Dolores and I called to you yesterday to voice our complaint regarding our holidays in Jasmine Hotel apartment at Jasmine Beach, Gumbet, Turkey and been charged €40 for late booking.

We arrived at the apartment late afternoon on 7th September 2013. The door of the apartment had marks on it where it had been forced, however the lock was intact. With the sun shining in through the patio door you could see the dust rise. As I suffer from asthma I was concerned with this level of dust. We looked around and saw a lot of dust so I went over to the reception and I told him the room was not clean. He told he would get it cleaned. The bed had clean sheet on it however during the night I got insect bites. This apartment was very bleak and dark. Any time we spent in the apartment we had to switch on the lights as it was so dull and dark. The next morning we went down to the rep from Thomas Cook in a hope to move apartment or even accommodation. We invited her to come back and view the apartment to let her see at first hand. She would not come back and view the accommodation. She told us she would get it cleaned she wasn’t too interested in helping us. It was visited by the cleaner with new towels, while we were absent and it never looked any cleaner. There was dust on the curtains, the vacant beds and the presses which was never resolved over our holiday.

Over the two weeks we spent least of our time in the apartment because it was gloomy and depressing to stay in it. We were eaten alive by insects when we were in it. A Cork woman had to go to the hospital with badly infected bites and a boy picked an infection from the swimming and had also to be hospitalised. We are both 59 years of age and have been going on holidays for the past 30 years and this is by far the worst accommodation we have ever experienced. The apartment had no television, radio, microwave or oven. It was purely basic there wasn’t even a tablecloth to dry utensils. I had to go to the Chemist to get medication for bites creams and tablet to the tune of €16.

Two people from Cork were in apartment next door and when they returned home the door to their patio was left open for four days and nights allowing dust and flies into this apartment. It was not cleaned as we left to go home. In any other resort we ever went to apartments were cleaned immediately when people left not so at Jasmin.

Finally, on the beach there were a large number of dogs which appeared to be roaming in this area and cattle grazing at night time leaving a lot of droppings. Three days prior to coming home we were lying out in sun and bathing in the water. A new dog was straying into the dogs territory and twelve dogs came together in a pack and ran through where were sunbathing after a dog. When they returned still in the pack they stopped in front of us some of the dogs did their droppings on the sand beside the sea and five dogs went into the sea and urined in the sea where we had been bathing. Everyone at this part of the beach got up and left totally sickened and annoyed at what had happened. Needless to say the last two days we did not venture to the beach. We have not approached the media yet but we are considering doing so.
