We booked a single day kayak coaching/trip, and after day 1 we were very keen for day 2! Our guide, Ricardo, was exceptional: despite the two of us having very different ability levels he managed to make sure the day was fun for both of us and that both of our skills developed.
We both came into the trip with some experience, I am comfortable on grade 4, while my partner is somewhere between beginner and intermediate. From the moment Ricardo knew this he started working out his plan to make the trip work as well as possible for both of us.
We were taken to the Rio Fonce, a grade 2-3 river where he helped my partner work on her rolling ability while I could practice some more advanced techniques. The rapids themselves were not that challenging for me but we're definitely some of the most fun grade 2-3 I've paddled, for my partner they were just the right level to challenge her without being too intense.
Lunch was surprisingly good, you never expect a restaurant meal when you go on a kayaking trip but that's what we got! Theres a little restaurant just next to the river where we could jump out of the kayaks and walk straight up to our table. The owner tried hard to make sure the vegetarian was well fed, and as a result we both ate very well!
Ricardo is a very skilled kayaker and a trustworthy guide, he was very safety conscious and keen to help both of us develop as much as possible. He could coach us both in English and made sure we both felt comfortable on the river.
Ricardo's coaching style really helped my partner, he achieved an excellent balance of confidence building while still pushing my partner to do her best. He focused closely on technique without losing sight of where her head was at. This attention to detail and to the kayaker meant that she progressed significantly beyond anything she had achieved at home.
(In case you're wondering what the kit situation is, it's actually pretty good, impressive given it's hard to import boating kit to Colombia)

Riccardo was amazing, chatty funny and made the trip great! We did the sandbox tour on the River Fonce in a blow up kayak. There was still decent rapids, but also nice calm pools with amazing views, so best of both worlds. Felt so safe you practice getting back into the kayak at the beginning in case you come out, which we did once and it was great fun!! Only 60,000 pesos pp for this tour. Would 100% recommend, especially for a budget/ less intense experience than the bigger rafting tours.

i was a bit scared at the beginning but rafting with them was super fun and i felt very safe. The guy who was leading our raft made breaks for us to recover and took the time to explain us a bit about the environment. I really enjoyed the afternoon the mood in the team was very good and the guides are very experienced!

We booked the Rio Suarez white water rafting through our hostel. Both of us were a little nervous as neither of us have done rafting before, but the experience was absolutely amazing! They put us at ease immediately, spoke fantastic English, and the safety talk was really comprehensive and a little scary but they need to prepare you for the worst case scenario. They then let you practise things like floating down the river and rescuing one another / folllwing all the different commands in a calm bit of water so you feel more comfortable which was so helpful. Our guide was Albert who was so much fun and made us feel so safe. You could tell how experienced he was and as long as you followed what he was saying, you should be fine! We didn’t go in the water once (except when we jumped out for swims in the calm bits!). The rapids were amazing and so fun. The guides also have a go pro and take pictures and videos of you throughout which you get promptly for free via email afterwards.
We were provided with a buffet lunch afterwards and a cold beer which was really nice - veggies catered for.
Everything was on time and well organised and it was a great day out!
For the price it was absolutely fantastic value particularly with the free photos / videos. Would highly recommend to anyone, particularly first time rafters who may be a bit nervous but want to try it!

The rafting was so much fun! Beautiful jungle and scenery. The team was awesome (Lester and Ricardo), very knowledgeable about the river and rapids and the equipment was in great condition. I would recommend this company and these people to anyone looking to have an awesome time rafting in Colombia!!

I had never done white water rafting before especially level 5 rapids, it was a spontaneous last minute decision I made to go and I did not regret it. Colombia rafting tours exped were fatnastic! Our guide ricardo was incredibly friendly, passionate and knowledgable about the activity and made us feel comfortable and safe during the entire activity. I had so much fun and they even provided lunch/snacks and a few beers for our group after the activity. I still have not got the go pro footage that they took of our boat from the that day which was about three weeks ago but if you are in San Gil I would still say going rafting in the Rio Suarez with colombia Rafting is a MUST do.

Brilliant morning spent white water rafting with Carlos (River Fonce Class II and III rapids).
Safety briefing beforehand (in both Spanish and English) and Carlos made sure all of us stayed safe and had a fun time on the river.
The guides have GoPros to take video and photos of the trip and it wasn't expensive to purchase afterwards - an email arrived overnight with details on how to download and save the files.
Highly recommended.

I’ve rafted around the world for about 60 days total and I was really impressed with the professionalism and focus on safety that this company has. The river was incredible. Rapids after rapids, non stop excitement and fun. Do it!!

Signed for a rafting trip, myself and 7 others. Just as we are about to get on the bus for the 2 hour ride to San Gil I discover a text message from Colombia rafting expeditions. They tell me that the water is to high for the group and we can not raft today. Would I like to take my group on another river? I replied yes, that’s fine, then I am told to go to their website and choose. Go to their website? I am on a bus about to travel.
Next they offer me other trips, but all those are more expensive than what we originally were going to go on (of course they are!). Nothing else to do but get everyone off the bus and explain what happened. Of course we are all disappointed in not going on this rafting trip.

Gracias por haber tomado el tiempo de escribirnos.
El rafting en el rio Suarez unicamente es posible cuando el nivel del agua esta en menos de 400 cm.
Colombia Rafting Expediciones posee dentro de sus protocoles de seguridad un sistema de control y monitoreo del nivel del rio constantemente y todas la reservaciones se confirman el mismo dia en la mañana dependiendo del nivel del rio. Si el nivel del agua es alto debemos cancelar la actividad por seguridad como fue el caso de este dia que el rio estaba en 480 cm y no era posible realizar la actividad.
En cuanto al mensaje que les hemos enviado para invitarlos a visitar nuestra pagina web y ver si desean realizar alguna otra actividad, entendemos que no era posible de poder hacerlo estando de viaje en el bus y les pedimos disculpas .
Lamentamos que no pudieron realizar la actividad de rafting y esperamos tener el gusto de atenderlos en una proxima ocasion.

The friendly and professional staff at Columbia Rafting Expeditions (Hugo, Lester, Richardo and Pedro) in San Gil, Columbia will be an experience I will remember for a long time.
Their top priority was our safety and their 2nd was for us to have the best experience possible.

Is it possible to reserve rafting in advance? I was in touch with someone at the company who said it was not possible to reserve but it seems others on here reserved their rafting experience ahead of time?

Is there a reason you need to book in advance? They usually find a way to accommodate your needs.

When we were there in may, most of the activities leaves daily - only mountainbiking needs to be booked in advance. If you're up for it, you can always get a cab from downtown to the caves, and ask for a local guide - might save you some money :)
