In this sanctuary is preserved the fresco of the Madonna with Child which was located on the façade of the little church of San Nicolao.
In 1555 Jesus as a child appeared to three children who were playing in the churchyard, immediately afterwards the Madonna appeared.
After that date, Corbetta became an important religious center, San Nicolao was enlarged several times and then a second church was created above the first one.
The facade that we see now is a remake of the late nineteenth century, the bell tower is of the last century, much more interesting is the interior that I could not see because it was found closed.

On the afternoon of Thursday 17 April 1555 (that year it was the Thursday before Easter) three children (two brothers, one of whom was deaf and dumb, and a friend of theirs) were playing bowls in front of a small chapel, which had a fresco of the Madonna with the Child in her arms, when Baby Jesus came to life, she came down from the fresco and began to play with the three. Shortly afterwards the Madonna also came down from the painting, picked up little Jesus in her arms and returned to the fresco. The deaf mute regained his speech and hearing.
The miracle was recognized by the archbishop's Curia and this sanctuary was built which includes the small chapel. The miraculous fresco is placed in a new chapel raised above the level of the church.
It is a center of devotion, as also indicated by the numerous votive offerings present in the chapel passing through the nearby museum.
Worth a visit.

A few days ago I saw again this shrine dedicated to the miracle that occurred in 1555 (described in previous reviews) when the Child Jesus, painted in a fresco on the facade of a small chapel, came alive and went down to the square to play bocce with three children, one of whom was deaf and dumb from birth and who regained speech and hearing.
Beautiful construction erected to incorporate the chapel, a sign of a devotion that persists over time.

It is religiously significant site. The importance of this site, it seems, is lost to many. That is real sad.
