Drove past this place on way to our hotel and decided to give it a try. Not being arty we found it extremely strange but very interesting. Some of the sculptures are fantastic and some just wierd. It gets you thinking which I suppose is art ! Definitely worth a visit

We visited the Tarot Gardens in great anticipation and were not one bit disappointed; they were even beyond our expectations! Niki de Saint Phalle created an absolutely amazing creative wonderland rich with talent and skill, fun, folly, and fantasy. If you like Gaudi's Park Guell or similar, you will LOVE the Tarot Gardens!! We went in one day, arriving about 3:30 pm (1 hr after opening) and stayed until about 6:30 pm. That included a break at the little snack bar in the parking lot to cool down & refresh before a last push of shopping out the gift shop! (They will let you in & out of the park gates to the parking lot as much as you want.) I would've liked to have gone back a second day to just explore and look in more detail and not worry about photos (b/c you're constantly taking photos while you're there!), but it just didn't work out for us. If you're a huge mosaic fan, you might look at doing the two-day thing; I think at only $12 euro pp it would be more than worth it to pay a 2nd day just to have a different experience, see things differently, not worry about photos, etc.
There is no map on their website about how to get there, only simple directions. However, you can trust that once you are in the area, you WILL see brown "park/attraction" signs with "Il Giardino del Tarocchi" all over leading you to the Gardens. It was a bit disconcerting for these Americans to not have a map showing just where to go; it does come up on Google maps but then there isn't always full coverage around the little hills of Tuscany if you're off the highway or coming from Capalbio.
One huge important note: as in many historical and attraction sites in Europe, there are NO interpretative/explanatory signs about any of the sculptures in the garden! There is a tiny, hand-drawn diagram of the sculptures on the back of the ticket, in Italian. If you would like to have insights into what each sculpture is called, what it's "about", details on its creation, etc. I highly recommend buying one of the books in the gift shop that are about the Gardens. We regretted not doing so while we were there but had no idea (which we should learn by now!!) that there would be no signs or anything. The books are available for prices of about $12 euro, $20 euro, and up and are very nice and well done. (There is also a (multi-lingual) DVD in the gift shop for maybe $20 euro that is easy to overlook but a very hard-to-find --outside the gardens---item, especially for Americans!)
...which brings me to this...for some reason, much to my dismay, there were NO Niki or Tarot Garden souvenirs to be found anywhere outside the gardens. We asked & looked all over in the area, in Capalbio, in Porto Santo Stefano, to no avail. And, if you try to look online for things, it's almost as sparse!! So--get anything & everything you would want at the Gardens gift shop, because that's all there is! If you're a crazy fan like me, here are the things that were available at the gift shop when we were there: t-shirts; women's, men's, child (very limited designs, like 1-2); mugs & plates, magnets, postcards, "buffs", microfiber screen wipes, high-end scarves, nice men's neckties, tablet & computer cases, small or cosmetic bags, books, DVD, inflatables, Tarot memory card games, note pads, journal books, sm. handmade ceramic items, bookmarks.
No drinks, food, vending machines available in the park or gift shop but you are welcome to bring in whatever you want and you can go in & out to the snack bar/cafe off the parking lot. There, they had surprising good Italian style (basic) sandwiches and baked goods, novelty ice creams, coffees & lots of cold drinks, beer, & wine, snacks, candy, etc. They have a large patio of tables & chairs with lots of shade. There are restrooms by the snack bar as well as in the park by the front gate where the gift shop is. I would recommend taking a"buff" or bandana type cloth for when it's hot & getting it wet to keep cool around your neck while in the park. There are fountains and water features in the park but the most contact you can have is dipping a buff in to get wet. It was very warm when we were there; early Sept. and they're only open in the late afternoons. Wear very cool, comfortable shoes w/ good traction; the path from the front gate is uphill chunky gravel and much of the walking around is on uneven surfaces and funky staircases and such. Shade hats, sunscreen, & bug repellent are essential!
If you'd like to see the 'bonus' Niki sculpture in the town of Capalbio, I would recommend it. It is close to the gardens-maybe 3km?, and a great Nana sculpture in a small plaza at the top of a hill, directly across the gated entrance to the walled old town of Capalbio. It is actually a flu fountain but wasn't running the day we were there. When you go to Capalbio, just keep driving uphill toward the walled old town as far as you can & then you will find places to park. The side kind of opposite from the Niki sculpture plaza had rows of free parking. We parked WAY downhill by the post office & walked a LONG way. The old town was very beautiful and quaint to walk around in, a photo op at every corner. We had an amazing lunch at a place well-rated on TA, just downhill from the Niki plaza; think it was "Tullio." Only about 3 small restaurants were open during the day inside the old town when we were there and no shops, 1 or 2 opening about 3:00 when we were leaving (after siesta).

We drove there in the expectation to visit the garden in a sunny Sunday of January. What a mistake: it is only open from 1st April to mid-October. And only in the afternoon. You only discover it arriving there, as its website does not say anything. So I decided to add this review just to alert others... and to motivate the managers to put information online about this place.

This is definitely worth the moans of tearing teenage boys away from iPhones/iPads and into the car. Niki de Saint Phalle is one of my wife's favourite artists, and the Tarot Garden doesn't disappoint. The scale of the project is impressive, but I was struck by how contemporary it felt. Despite the size of the installations there are some surprisingly subtle variations in the colours, textures and materials used throughout.
The boys took a little time to work out how to respond to the shapes, colours and concept but were soon running around enjoying it. The elder boy worked out some really creative artistic selfie opportunities (sadly...)
My highlights included The Empress, inside which Niki de Saint Phalle installed a sitting/dining room, kitchen (complete with mirrored fridge-freezer and Miele dishwasher!), bedroom and bathroom; and also the smaller statute part of the garden with an engagingly happy statue of Death riding a horse with a beautiful cloak of night.
On the practical side, please check opening times (open only afternoons while we were staying in the area) and check a map because it is not that well sign-posted.

I was here for about 2 hours a few days ago and it was wonderful. Don't miss it. A couple of helpful hints: Get there when it opens at 2:30. Wear sturdy shoes. Take a bottle of water as it can get pretty hot. Head straight for the artist's house (map on back of ticket) when you get there so you an enjoy it without the crowd. We followed that advice and were able to cruise through the house with no jostling. It's really a wonderful place.

Even if you have no interest in art, ceramics or fantasy gardens, this is a MUST visit for everyone. I dragged along my boyfriend and he was completely mesmerised, we both took over 200 photos each and spent the entire day there.
Being number 1 on my bucket list of things I must see in my life, travelling to Niki de Saint Phalle’s Tarot Garden was a very personal pilgrimage. Armed with my knowledge of ceramics and having studied the work of the artist, I was all anticipation and enthusiastically planned my whole trip to Italy around this visit.....and it did not disappoint!
This is truly a wonderland, where tiled surfaces glisten and entwine around the rugged Tuscan landscape. From the moment you enter the park you are immersed into the world of the Tarot, with each sculpture representing one of the Major Arcana. The magnificent fountain of an enormous scale is the beginning of your journey around these magical spaces. The experience is totally tactile and interactive as you climb and explore the garden and the works. I observed everyone, young and old, enjoying the play and the absolute feeling of love, joy, peace and pleasure that exudes from these beautifully decorated monumental works.
Niki de Saint Phalle at one time lived and worked within the Tarot Garden and you can visit her home that is within one of the sculptures; it was a personal highlight.
My tips for visiting are: go by car (public transport is too difficult), go on a clear sunny day so you can appreciate the reflective qualities of the tiles, pack a lunch and picnic in the gardens (include a bottle of water as it gets hot), wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses, go an hour after opening time as bus loads of children from Rome arrive early and take ages to go through the gates and finally stay all day and then go to Capalbio (only 10 mins away) where you will find a little bar that opens on the city wall around 6pm, the man there will serve you beautiful wines and you can look over the valley as the sun goes down.
What can I say, but “magnifico” a dream fulfilled!

I'm a Gaudí freak so this place was a must!
I loved it, the atmosphere is magical and the artist who created this place is a genious.
Shame though it's open only in the afternoons: it's be less crowded for sure if it had extended timetables.
I wish there were guards controlling the audience: despite for example the "no climbing" sign, there're kids (and older people as well) climbing on the sculptures all the time. Considering how delicate the crystal mosaics are, being careful should be a must
I also wish there was at least a "kids free" day once in a month, to give the opportunity to art lovers to enjoy the place without being forced to bear kids behaving like they were at an amusement park, jumping, running, screaming around like crazy.

This is a place for the whole family - everybody will love it! The artist has put her whole heart into every piece of work made on this place. Niki de Saint Phalle got inspired by Gaudi's Parc Grüell in Barcelona but has passed him in emotions and details by far. Incredible that this place is in the middle of nowhere with hardly any sign at all until you are actually on the very road! GO THERE! and enjoy with friends or family!

make sure you have all your travel planned in advance to get here as it's not easy to reach by public transport (we didn't find a way to do it) so it's best if you have your own car. BUT it is so worth going there - even if you aren't interested in tarot. The park reminds one of of Parc Guell in Barcelona but more intimate. It's great for children and adults alike and you also get amazing views of the Tuscan countryside when you climb around them. Highly recommended!

If you are a Gaudi fan, this is really something for you as is in his style. The kids really enjoyed wandering around the exhibits. A fun place for which you need 60-90 minutes to enjoy.

Perché nn aggiornate anche il sito di Google?, risultate aperti e noi come tantissime altre persone abbiamo fatto il viaggio a vuoto . Un’ora e mezza di viaggio per andare è altrettanto per tornare .

Non prendono prenotazioni. Aprono alle 14.30. Conviene andarci una mezz'ora prima oppure verdo le 16.30/17.00.
