About
Rising from the rugged hills of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, the magnificent Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue stands watch over the island. The towering statue is Bali’s most iconic landmark and depicts the Hindu God Wisnu, atop his mount, the mythical eagle, Garuda. Soaring to a height of over 120 meters, this is one of the tallest monumental statues in the world, higher than both the Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer. The statue makes a stunning central feature of GWK Cultural Park, a fascinating 60 hectare cultural park that draws visitors from around the globe and provides a tantalizing glimpse into Bali’s fascinating heritage through intriguing cultural performances, legendary folklore tales, immense sculptures and dramatic cinematic presentation. Enjoy panoramic island views as you explore the park on foot or by Segway. Indulge in Indonesian heritage cuisine, immerse yourself in a land steeped in mythology, or plan your next big event in one of GWK’s epic venues.

- milinipShanghai, China146 contributionsOnly if you around otherwise pass your wayThe restaurant is pretty nice and the 2 small statues are ok, no need to walk to the big Garuda, there is nothing to see around unless you want to go up there. You will need to pay and extra fee 250k per person. The tickets are not expensive as such but when you start to add the bus ride and the entrance to the Garuda, it become a bit too much for what is it We missed the dance maybe the best thing to see !Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 4, 2023
- Samantha H69 contributionsCultural Park an experienceThe views were amazing, it was a bit confusing about where to go and what the purpose of the structure was. Photo opportunities, you could even go on a helicopter ride for $300 per person. Lovely breeze, at the top. Pay to get on the buggy as it is a long steep walk and very hot.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 27, 2023

- Muhammad AriefMalang, Indonesia10 contributionsGood Place to goVisited Garuda Wisnu Kencana in the afternoon around 14:00, which was perfect to avoid the intense heat. The views were simply stunning, and the cultural show was a treat. Be ready for a bit of a walk to reach the majestic statue, but it's all part of the great experience. Highly recommend for an enriching afternoon!Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 5, 2023
- Cynthia E12 contributionsNot a good value for moneyToo expensive for a cultural visit. A great display of a few big statues. Other than that, there’s not much to see. For going to the main statue, you will have to pay extra if you want to go with a buggy. To go up and join the tour, you must pay extra 250 thousands rupiah.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 26, 2023
- OliverCanterbury, United Kingdom11 contributionsA special placeI visited this park around 14 years ago and I remember it as being somewhere that was very pretty spectacular. So, I was looking forward to going back again. It had changed since I was last there, especially the entrance. But, I was glad that I went back. This is a very uplifting and peaceful place. I highly recommend it.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten January 9, 2024
- mem1378Adelaide, Australia97 contributionsPay for the buggy!Went later in afternoon to avoid heat, definitely pay the extra for the buggy to get around. It was a bit confusing about which way to go to see everything , perhaps some signage to help people know where to next as the buggy staff spoke limited English and didn’t seem very helpful. At the end you walk through a gift shop then we weren’t sure how to get back, again some signage or staff to help direct people. Asked someone at the gift shop counter who just pointed which way to go, not very friendly. Statues are impressive! Weird you have to pay extra to go up in the large one, we decided not to but surely could be part of the ticket price? Definitely worth a visit but only need 1.5 hrs.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 11, 2024
- Sirisha318 contributionsNothing spectacular and expensiveWe went to Garuda park and entrance fee for foreigners is 150,000 IDR per person. If you want a buggy to take you to the statue, you have to pay additional 40,000 IDR per person. The buggy cost is worth it if it is hot and humid or rainy as it takes 45 minutes to walk to the statue. They also offer packages where if you want to go to 23rd floor of the building of the statue in addition to the entrance fee, the cost is 300000 IDR per person. We took the buggy to the top but since we did not buy the ticket to go to the 23rd floor, we just took a few photos there and then took the buggy down to the middle area. Here we offered prayer to Vishnu. The cost of prayer was included in our ticket. The priest basically sprinkles holy water on us and offers the water with which we washed our faces. And then we headed back. We passed a pond on the way. There is nothing really worth here for the high fee that is charged. They have restaurants here for those who want to eat at the park.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 14, 2024
- KurtYulara, Australia15 contributionsMust visit, ignore complaining. An incredible and unique experience. I've seen some other reviews complaining about pricing. It's very easy to figure out if you are not a complete brain-dead moron. We paid the price to go up the statue and see views you can't see anywhere else. The statue is incredibly impressive. Being the 5th largest in the world, you haven't seen anything like this and they provide great engineering information. The walk to the statue is not 45min, it's much shorter if you are not an unfit piece of human garbage, afraid of a short walk. Definitely worth visiting to see an incredible statue and learn more about culture and religion. There are many cultural dances and other statues to learn about. Would bring friends and family here next time.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 22, 2024
- Alia Vaishnavi S11 contributionsGreat Place to Experience Local CultureI'm not sure why the park gets mixed reviews, because we thought it was nicely done with a lot to do there. The website clearly states that there are 2 different ticket options: 1 for the park entrance itself and everything inside, and 1 for the park entrance combined with entry inside the Garuda statue for its viewing decks. You can buy these as a bundle upfront or separately inside (cheaper to bundle). We only bought the regular park entry ticket. You can probably get through the park in an hour or two if you just see the statues and take a few pictures. To get a full cultural experience, it's best to follow the map and catch the cinema show plus the live dance performances. Each performance was about 30 minutes (all free with regular park entrance) and they're every hour on the hour, with different types of performances throughout the day. We watched 3 performances, received a blessing in the temple at the Vishnu statue, and watched the cinema show, and we didn't feel we missed anything by not going inside the statue. This took us about 4-5 hours. All in all, we enjoyed our experience there and seeing different aspects of the culture. We would definitely recommend going.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 3, 2024

It started with a high price to get in, then being told after we paid that there was no transport to take us up the top for another 3 hours! so we had to drag our 3 children, our youngest only 3 and 5 and walk up to the top to visit the statues, then further up to get to the big statue/building. After arriving someone took our photo with a backdrop, gave us a number to collect after we were finished. This is something that i love doing as we rarely get a family photo as im always behind the camera. After finally getting to the very top, we were very thirsty to find that the water was the most expensive water we had brought the whole time in Bali. We were excited to go up the top of statue to see the amazing view, to be told that it would cost an arm and leg to do it. We decided well we made it this far we may as well, but then nope to be knocked back saying can only do it via a tour, which wasnt for another 2 hours and was in Chinese not English! What a let down! We turned around and started to walk all the way back down, we came across men just sitting in a group of golf buggies, we asked how much it would cost to drive us back, our children was very tired, do be denied and said that they couldnt! At the end we went to collect our photo, our numbers (there was 4) couldnt be found. we walked to the shop, then to be told to go down the very bottom, to be then told to go back up the shop, to then be told they couldnt find them.

Too expensive for what you get and far away from Seminyak. Cost 125 k plus shuttlebus 30 k and when you come to the statue you have to pay another 100 k to go up in the building. A few statues to look at, nothing else. Nice view from the restaurant though.

We popped in for a quick visit as part of a journey to another destination. It was easy to park, there are regular transfer buses from the car park to the main entry and the whole ticket buying process as easy.
It wasn't expensive to get in, and we opted for the buggy ride up to the monument itself at the top of a good hill, and to walk back down through the rest of the park. Wear trainers/runners, not thongs/flip flops. Also there are quite a few steps in some of the other monuments and temples.
Once you are up at the monument you have the option to buy a ticket to up inside it, but we didn't. Walking through the park there are also a number of spectacular smaller statues and temples, great view points, good photo ops, as well as shops and restaurants. You could easily spend a few hours in the park.
It was well worth the visit, even if only to know you have been to see it when you spot the statue from everywhere else on the island!

My trip advisor review
We have viewed this imposing statue from afar during our many trips to Bali, but this time we decided to visit it close up. I'm very pleased we did. It's a great way to spend a few hours. We opted to go on the guided tour inside the statue to the 23rd floor which was really interesting thanks to the charming, informative guide. Only a handful of visitors can go on the tour at a time so it's important to book a time slot.
The tour takes you first to the 9th floor where you can watch a short animated film about the mythology behind the statue. There are also several other displays on that floor including information about the concept behind the statue, how it was made, the designer and the people who worked on it. I found the details about how the golden parts of the statue were made, particularly interesting. Then you take the lift to the 23rd floor. There are several smallish windows there and a few glass floors for those game enough to walk over them (I wasn't). Additionally there are windows showing the internal structure of the statue with a couple of lifesize models of workers positioned over the steel girders.
Whilst the views over the surrounding landscape were good it wasn't as great for photos as I would have hoped as a) there is a glass floor section by each window, and b) the exterior of the statue is quite thick so it seems like you're viewing the surrounding landscape through a short tunnel.
But if you don't want to pay the extra cost to go up the statue, there are a couple of other impressive statues in the park worth a look, as well as cultural performances, an art gallery, a souvenir shop and a restaurant. Overall, it was a pleasant place to wander around and, at the time of our visit, not overly crowded.
Unfortunately, there were no maps to the park, other than the one at the ticket office. We kept seeing signs to "The Lotus Pond" but we couldn't find it. It was only later we discovered it wasn't an actual lotus pond but a large flat area cut out of the limestone rocks and which is used for concerts and other events.
At the time of our visit, the ticket prices were IDR 125k per person for general entry and IDR 250k pp for the statue tour, or you can get a combined ticket for IDR 300k but you have to pay by credit card for this option (other options you can pay by cash) or you can buy tickets online from their website. You can also get a shuttle bus from the ticket office to the statue for IDR 40k pp. As it's quite a climb to the big statue at the top, it's worth the small extra cost. There's another shuttle bus (free) to take you from the carpark to the ticket office.

We visited the cultural park on Saturday and were charged 250,000 for 2 adults. We were excited to climb the statue, when we arrived at the base of the statue we were told it was closed for the day with no explanation and we had paid a full price entrance ticket. Very disappointing to not have been told this at the entrance and we now understand why there is a big sign saying NO REFUNDS. We stayed to watch the 6pm performance which was enjoyable and the dancers are talented but the story difficult to follow for foreign people especially for an hour long.

This was our second time here because the previous time the lift inside the statue was not finished. So we came today in the bucketing rain, decided to pay extra to get the shuttle up the hill instead of walking like last time. So 155000IDR each to get to statue and then 100000 IDR to go up the lift but you cannot take any camera or camera phone up the lift. All must be put in a locker and you must wait for tour times every half hour. Not really worth it.

Visited today and found it quite underwhelming. Large park aimed at tourists but not a lot going on and undergoing some renovations. We paid IDR 500k for a family of 4 which was pricey given limited features / attractions at the park. (Note children under 130cm in height are charged a slightly cheaper ticket and children under 100cm are free).
We watched a Balinese dance which was good. The GWK statue is huge and art museum interesting albeit the narrative is written in Indonesian (?) so unable to read what the art pieces depict - surprising given this place is aimed at tourists. Quite mediocre / lacklustre and not one that I would wish to revisit.

125K for ticket and on top of that 40K for one way buggy, and what you get in return? NOTHING.
In that price, a big ho ha is created. They will first take you in a bus from car park to the ticket counter. Get in a queue, wait for the buggy. It will take you to the hill top where there is a big statue on top of a building. The building itself does not match with the surroundings. Moreover, you need to fork out additional amount and time if you want to go on top of the statue.
I must say is an excellent piece of art, but charging a huge price to see the statue from the ground below is just too expensive.
Food is terrible too!
MUST AVOID

We took a taxi from the hotel which dropped us off in a car park which forced us to take the shuttle bus upto the entrance /ticket area . There is a drop off area so this ruse is just another way of getting money out of the tourist
It s. very sad in some respects as ,whilst the statue was completed in 2018 ,the surrounding cultural park is far from completed and in some places , badly neg, edged and is already crumbling .
Most of the retail stalls have either never opened or been abandoned due to covid
The roads are badly potholed and breaking up which is either shoddy workmanship or extremely poor maintenance . Be careful using the multiple steps as they are broken and loose in places posing a safety hazard
We took the 15 min walk upto the statue . We were advised when purchasing the tickets we couldn’t go up inside as it was under repair/ renovation . It is impressive from a distance and close up ,but I struggle to justify the 27billion INR that it cost to build it . Looking at the plans , completion of a waterfall and paths leading for the statue are yet to be developed
Other reviewers mention the ‘free ‘ refreshment A machine dispensed glass of lemon tea
We went to the 1100 cultural show . The dancing is traditional and well performed . I always marvel at the flexibility of the girls fingers when they are dancing
It then descended into a poor version of a game show with audience participation to dance and also later to play the musical instruments . Not necessary and for us , cringingly embarrassing
As other have said , all the announcements regarding the show are in Indonesian. If you want to attract the tourists , drop the English Covid announcements which are constant when walking around and have English announcements alongside the Indonesian in the cultural show
We spent about 2 hours there which was enough . Want going to stay for something to eat
No way of getting a taxi from the carpark drop off so we walked to the entrance on the main road . 10 min walk , mostly in the shade on broken pavement path
Flagged a taxi back to the hotel close to the main entrance
I wouldn’t be in a rush to go back until it’s been repaired ,and all aspects completed and opened

Amazing cultural park with impressive sizes of iconic statues. Entry fee is IDR 125,000 which is fairly expensive for local tourist attraction. You will need to pay additional IDR 40,000 if you want to have buggy ride to the main statue instead of walking. The park itself is beautiful but needs clearer signage of direction.
There is a museum with artwork display from local artists.
Plenty of walk up and down through the stairs to see different statues. Impressive carvings too. Perhaps the entry fee is worth it in 5 years time when remaining facilities such as rooftop bar and waterpark are completed.
