We spent the weekend in the National Park & visited the Baradla Cave. There are tours everyday, at 10am, midday, 3pm and 5pm. You pay HUF2200 per adult and the tour lasts approximately 45mins-1hr. It is well worth it!
The caves are humongous and you get to see all the main chambers. It is beautiful down there. It is chilly at a constant 10degrees so take adequate jumpers and I'd suggest you wear long trousers with comfortable walking shoes. It is not strenuous at all & the well-constructed concrete path you follow through the caves is well-lit and easily walked.
The tour is in Hungarian, but I was lucky as my partner is Hungarian so he translated what the guide was saying. The guide was knowledgeable.
We thoroughly enjoyed the cave tour & would recommend it to anyone!

We called in the caves on our way back from Slovakia last weekend. We opted for the 1hr tour as it was quite late in the afternoon. We arrived at 3.45pm and were told the next tour was at 4pm. Wear non slip shoes and a good coat as the floor is wet and it is quite damp in there.
On walking into the caves you are greeted with stunning formations and these only get better the further you walk into the cave. The height and depth of some of them are amazing and you will need a good camera flash to capture the beauty.
In the music hall we were told to sit while the guide set the music going and he worked the light show in the background highlighting the stalagmites and stalactites. This was beautiful as different lighting highlighted different areas and angles.
We enjoyed the tour and will return but will opt for a longer tour next time.

Only 1 km is open for visitors out of the 25,5 kms which is the total length of the fantastic Bardala cave which is the longest in Hungary .
The entrance is a natural one as it was used by prehistoric men. One of the main attraction is the " Concert Hall " with such a fantastic acoustic that classical music and pop music concerts are organized every year,]. Unfortunately I could only enjoy a few minutes of a CD which is played for the visitors.
Only one small negative point : the guide speaks only Hungarian; it was not a problem for me because I was with Hungarian friends so I could get everything translated.
One advice : whatever the outside temperature take a jacket because inside you will freeze.

This is a baetiful cave, one of its kind in the region. It is a great experience that you go in the cave in Hungary and come out in Slovakia. :) I cannot get used to this fun feeling. It was my second time there but will surely go back again. Aggtelek is only 2 hours from Budapest, so I took there now our business partners from UK and they loved it. Even if you're not that big fan of nature, I would definitely put this on my list when visiting Hungary.
You don't have to prepare for some incredible phisical activity, but make sure you dont mind your clothes get a bit dirty.

In my opinion It is fantastic place to visit. If I could compare this cave with Skocjans Caves Aggtelek is smaller but more impressive than that Caves in Slovenia. Anyone who is amateur of tourist speleology and visiting north part Hungary , must see this place.

Hi, I am visiting Aggtelek in October this year. I shall be going from Budapest to Eger for a night and from Eger, I wish to travel to Poprad, Slovakia and on the way, I would like to do a tour of the Baradla cave in Aggtelek. Is this possible by say, a taxi service? I have read elsewhere that Aggtelek is not very well connected by train/bus. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I understand that the Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst is a world heritage site that straddles between two countries, i.e. Hungary and Slovakia. I would like to know:
1) How to get to this site either from Hungary or Slovakia by whatever transport (train, public bus, etc) that is available and which are the nearest cities/towns from both countries that I should start the journey to this site?
2) From which of the two countries should I start my tour of the caves considering, amongst other factors, entrance fee, transport availability and convenience, respective beauty of the caves, etc?
3) Are the caves from both countries connectable, so that if I enter from the Hungarian side, I get to exit through the Slovakia side?
4) Any advice on when is the best time to visit the caves, such as if there are any specific opening hours during each season?
