Paid about £45 each for this tour.
The islands are lovely, the scenery was breathtaking.
The staff were great.
But - you are taken to a central departure point with what seemed to be hundreds of other travellers (99% Chinese).
You then go on a 90min boat trip and anchor off of one of the islands and hundreds of you try to snorkel- this is not what I expected.
The second island is where you eat and it is a lovely island but there are about 1000 of you getting fed not very nice food.
There is plenty to drink on the boat and on the islands.
As I have said the staff are great.
The next two islands are better for snorkelling.

Would I have gone if I had know what it was like - probably not- however it was an experience and I'm glad I went.

This is not a quiet trip around the islands.

The snorkelling is okay and you see the fish, but there are better places to go.

Enjoy

The pick from the resort was half an hour late but that meant less time waiting around at the pier. I was on the English speaking boat which had people from Australia, England, France, Germany, South Korea, Finland, Check Republic and many more. Lucy - the most beautiful boy guide - was fabulous. A couple of people were sea sick on the crossing and Lucy was very attentive wiping their faces and giving a neck massage.

Plenty to eat and drink throughout the day. Lunch was very rushed as the island was very crowed. Hundreds of people on a small beach but I had time to enjoy the white sand and the clean water.

Two snorkelling sessions. Unfortunately we missed out on a swim with the turtles. We were told it was a bit too rough to snorkel in that bay - I don't agree

All in all worth the trip to see the beautiful islands

Pros: staff 5*, food and drinks good and enough quantity, beautiful views, they provide you snorking even if you dont know swim
Cons: they could give us more time to snorking, more healthy food, too many people in the boat
Obs: is easy to feel sick in the boat

The Islands:
The 7 hours transport from phuket to the islands are not worth it. The Time was very limited in each stop and the islands were overcrowded.

Speedboat:
We was 42 passagers + 6 staff in a very small boat!
Some passagers had to sit on each others it was disgusting and very dangerous. Expect back pain for the rest of the week.

Food:
Breakfast was very good but the lunch is disguesting. Just see the pictures. We was expecting some sea food or at least something clean. But they gave us spaguetti and rice. The spaguetti sauce was not a real sauce, it was KETCHUP!!! and the fried chicken was like cooked 3 days ago. Really not eatable. We recemend bringing your own food.

Staff:
Not frendly at all.

Booked to go with Love Andaman and found my agent had booked me with these guys as apparently Love Andaman were full. Apparently that happens a lot. Huge amounts of people squeezed onto a speedboat so barely room to sit. More people than fish when snorkelling and hundreds of people on the beaches. Full of rude Russians and selfie-obsessed Chinese and no respect for the coral in pursuit of the perfect selfie!! They should exercise more control is protecting these islands but sadly, like everywhere in Thailand, it's all about the money and no regard for the environment or people. Food was rubbish and guide was some strange incomprehensible lady boy who was useless and more interested in putting on lipstick and checking out all the men like a dog on heat! It's impossible to avoid the crowds unless you do a night on the islands. I certainly won't bother going back!!

I can only confirm the very bad reviews here. In a nutshell: to crowded boats, horrible lunches and completely overcrowded places. Also you lose so much time waiting before and after.

The boat (boat #69) smelled like gas the entire day!!! It gave me a headache and my friend actually got sick and was not able to enjoy the day at all. This is unacceptable and there is no way the staff is not aware of the smell. Let alone paying almost $100 dollars for the excursion!
The beaches are stunning although to crowded. The snorkeling stops are too rushed and too many other boats/people all in the same spot.

We went on a snorkling day trip to Tachai island. The pickup was more than an hour late. Onboard the boat there was barely enough room to sit and not enough lifejackets. After arrival at Tachai everything was rushed and overall the service left much room for improvement. The snorkling sites were very nice, but too crowded.

I have broken this review into two parts - Andaman Sea Sun Travel and Similan

Andaman Sea Sun Travel

One word - "Wow". I have been on many island hopping/snorkelling excursions but these guys take the cake. They are run like a well oiled machine and their attention to small detail is amazing.

For example, after our second snorkelling session, I noticed there was a slight cut on one of the passengers leg. The guide leader without prompting or fuss took out the first aid kit and fixed it up. I suppose what impressed me most was that it was not a particularly bad cut and the way she just went about it. Also, when we had lunch, one guide reserved a table/bench for us because he knew we had a group of 8.

In addition:

(a) life vest/snorkelling equipment/boat was very well maintained and in good shape
(b) good hot lunch spread
(c) served ice-cream on our way back
(d) guides were in control and felt safe

Similan Islands

As for the Similan Islands, the beaches/islands were very pretty but the corals/snorkelling was ordinary. Like most of Thailand, unless you go scuba diving or somewhere further out or remote, the corals are mostly damaged or dying. However, we did get to swim with turtles as promised on one of the snorkelling sessions.

My only other "tip" if you decide to go on the trip is to prepare yourself for the toilets at the last island stop where you have your lunch. Like any other eco islands, it is very basic and not the most hygienic.

We had a good time on the Similan islands tour. I think we only went to 2 of the islands - honeymoon beach being one place. The snorkeling was ok but many of the corals were not in good shape. There was supposedly a turtle sighting at the snorkeling site. The captain did stop the speedboat when he spied some dolphins and whales. The boat was filled to capacity - 45 tourists. We had to leave shoes in the basket or carry in our bags because sand messes up the boat. I would recommend you keep your shoes in your bag or wear aqua shoes because one island has some viewpoints where you have walk up a path and some rocks. This is not easy for tender feet. The crew was very nice - helping people up and down the boat on shore, carrying kids to the toilet, helping seasick people. Breakfast was basically fried rice, tang, coffee, water and some cookies while you wait for people to arrive at the office. The boxed lunch was good - chicken breast in sauce, pasta in diluted tomato sauce, cooked vegetables and rice. Dinner was Pad Thai and coconut ice cream. The beaches were beautiful. There were some mosquitoes but a lot of people. The guide said there were about two thousand tourists in the islands that day. Because the islands do not have piers for boats to dock at, passengers have to step down from the boat onto the beach into thigh to waist high water. Climbing back onto the boat from the beach and after snorkeling required assistance from the crew. If you have weak or bad knees I would not recommend this tour for you. The snorkeling gear they provide is a basic mask and tube but if you have your own gear, bring it. You can rent fins. Bring your own tissues and wipes for the toilet.
