We wanted to feed bananas to the elephant. The Elephant came to us after bath. It was an unique experience for all my family members including my 4 year old grandson to feed bananas to the elephant. We would keep the unpeeled banana on our palm and the elephant would suck them in its trunk and swallow that immediately to ask for another one. We fed around 80 bananas to a single elephant. We came here as part of our Norwegian Cruise Line excursion. We thought we were going to an elephant sanctuary where the elephants were being cared for in their retirement. This impression was bolstered by the memo we received from NCL, stating that in no way would we be able to ride the elephants. Dead wrong. We get to this place, and one of the first things we see are folks climbing on the backs of the elephants. Immediately adjacent, we see an elephant chained to the post, under cover but unable to move. A few meters in, we see "chickens" in cages, which my daughter and I went to look at. Turns out they were roosters. You know how I was able to deduce that? By the "cockfight stadium" a minute down the road. To drive home the point that this is a truly wretched place, it's right next to a shooting range so your activities are always peppered with the sound of gunfire. Do they bathe elephants here and can you feed them? Yeah. But the rest of it is hellacious. Avoid this place if you have a choice. We wish we did.…
