Soi Romanee is a narrow bylane in the old Phuket town and we had visited the same during our sightseeing tour of the old Phuket town. This Lane has many beautiful heritage buildings - the ground floor of most which have been converted into souvenir shops and restaurants. It was nice clicking pics here.

Soi Romanee is very attractive with its pleasantly decorated buildings. I instantly felt like stopping longer here. In contests to Dibbuk Street next door which instinctively struck me as unremarkable.
Elegant architecture. One way road traffic so instinctively slightly less foreboding.

A beautiful lane in Phuket old town. Has colorful buildings in Sino Portuguese style architecture. Aungku cafe is a very crowded photo stop here. Has good restaurants and cafés around.

From 2013 to 2018 I always enjoyed walking down this street, quiet, relaxed among locals. Photogenic. Now I'm shocked at how Thalang and Soi Rommanee have become touristy. Every house is an overloaded shop or café.
The worst thing is the Instagram shooting spots and the horrible plastic roses on the building wall at the entrance to Rommanee. The worst thing is the huge open clothing store at the end of Rommanee towards the temple. OMG.

I booked myself in a hotel within walking distance from Old Town. Do yourself a favor and go early, see how Old Town wakes up, see the beautiful morning light and wander around by yourself and locals on their way to work.
It’s a small street, and as it gets later in the morning it’s harder to take in the special place Old Town is.
Don’t forget to visit the local market. Unfortunately I can’t upload more than 10 pictures;-)
Go for breakfast at The Neighbors in Old Town.
Lovely!!

A nice place to go while in Phuket Town. Beautiful architecture. Some good little shops and great places to get fresh coffee and home made chocolate and cakes

Soi Romanee used to be the red light district for the Chinese labourers. They came to Phuket to work the tin mines. The name ‘rommani' is a Thai word that means beautiful, favourite or adorable. Here Romanee refers to the activities of the lovely ladies. In the past you could find brothels, opium houses and gambling dens here. As time passed the ladies moved their businesses to Soi 11 and this street became an abandoned ghost lane. A few years back someone realised that the Sino-Portuguese architecture here was worth conserving. Thus this lane turned out to be one of the most beautifully restored ones in Phuket Town. You can see people coming here for wedding photoshoots, tourist selfies and romantic dates. We really enjoyed walking down this artistically painted street.

You can tell how popular a place is by the number of times you have to stop for people taking photographs. Consequently it took me almost 30 minutes to walk this beautiful stretch of laneway. Can’t wait to see it again, at night.

A must while in Phuket. An area with quaint brightly painted buildings. Gives you a feel of being in a totally different world.
