    Hidden secret in Bundala
We had the most wonderful trip with Srimal. It was a wet day and we weren't sure how much wildlife we would see. We saw SO much. Srimal was extremely knowledgable and you could tell how much he cares for and respects the animals that live in the park. He has lived next to it his whole life. We saw kingfishers, pelicans, painted storks, mongoose, crocodiles, black-faced langurs and wild boar. The highlight was a fantastic encounter with a male elephant who came right up to the jeep. We then saw him have a mud bath right in front of us. It was incredible. We saw one other jeep the whole time we were in the park. You don't get that in Yala. Would 10/10 recommend Srimal's safari. To book yours....here are Srimal's details: Khsrimal@yahoo.com 0094779599397

    Wonderful day in Bundala
Bundala park was really a wonderful experience (impressive landscape, animals you can see, not overcrowded) and not only interested for ornithologists. You can discover also elefants, buffalos, monkeys, lizzards, and more. I had a 3 hours afternoon tour, only with a driver, without a tracker. My driver was Ishan and he did a really good job. Although he had to drive the jeep under difficult conditions (muddy surface), he could find a lot of birds and other animals. And he also tried to give some more informations about the animals and their habitat. Simultaneous he also gave me the time to enjoy these special moments. Thank's Ishan!

    Bundala is thriving with wildlife!
Bundala is a gem! We went there early mornings and there were birds everywhere. We also saw some crocodiles, buffalos, monitor lizards and monkeys. We did a safari with Chaminda, +94 71 309 5115 who I can highly recommend. He's very friendly and passionate about the wildlife and great at spotting them too. Our breakfast stop by the beach was stunning!

Bundala NP is a must see
I visited 3 national parks in Sri Lanka and I like Bundala most! Even I saw bear, leopard and elephants in Yala there was not such a calm atmosphere as in Bundala. Hightly recommend to people who loves nature, animals and dont like chasing them. I never seen so many birds as in Bundala park! I took safari with Srimal (+94 779599397) who is local guide and with his knowledge about animal he made me amazing experience.

    Best National Park without crowds
We visited 4 National Parks and in our opinion this was the best place to see nature at its best without the crowds and lots of jeeps. No problems to stop and observe and no queuing jeeps. We’ve been in Sri Lanka for two weeks and had already identified at least 50 species of birds but at Bundala we were helped by our guide to see another 21 species! Even spotted some yellow bittens and a black bittern, a blue faced malkoha, southern coucal, black crowned night heron, osprey and striated green heron to name a few. We went early in the morning so not too hot. Even had little look at the Indian Ocean. Highly recommend if you like bird watching. We also saw crocodiles, mongoose, tufted grey langurs and wild boar. .

Our 3 hour afternoon safari in Bundala was the best safari we did in Sri Lanka. Not only were we very lucky in seeing many elephants, birds and crocodiles, our guide Srimal was also extremely knowledgable about all the animals and gave us lots of background information. Other safaris that we did in Yala and elsewhere where compratively disappointing because these were done only with drivers (no extra guide) and these only spoke poor English and only knew a few of the big animals. The safari was also much more pleasant than the safaris in Yala with no other jeeps around. We had the park essentially for ourselves. Highly recommended!

I booked a tour ahead of time with Chaminda (Bundala Jeep Sarari - see review)) for both Bundala (1/2 day) and Yala (full day). Of the two parks, I preferred this one but would still recommend both. Bundala is small but full of birds and beautiful! Coasts, wetlands, scrub brush, it was all great for birding. We saw 46 species in less than 3 hours! It would have been more but you can't walk around here, vehicles only so it's good to have a nice slow driver. We also saw crocs but no elephants.

*It's totally possible to do this on a whim from Tissa. Guys park outside and wait for tourists to show up at both parks but I can not speak to their professionalism. If you are looking for bird watching I can recommend Chaminda on Whatsapp +94 71 309 5115, he knew many species.

We heard a lot about safaris in Sri Lanka (and not always good things!) but we had great time during our tour in Bundala's Park.
The park was very quiet as it is not the most famous and covid still affects tourism. Although is it a bird sanctuary, we managed to see elephants, crocodiles, warthog, deers, monkeys, peacocks, buffalos, and a lot of beautiful birds! The views are amazing and really different from the side of the park you are at!
Our guide Chanminda was great, he was making sure to turn off the car when approaching animals, and also staying far enough to do not disturb them. He was also making sure to do not leave any plastic or pollution behind, which is really appreciable in a country that is quite behind in term of ecology/ waste treatment. At the end, he drove us to the main road and made sure we caught the right bus!
The only down side is that every jeep that enter the park is not full (of course it makes more money) but I would appreciate if the park would only allow full jeeps so less vehicles would be driving around (we only saw another car but it is because it is still really quite, I am afraid when tourism takes off again, it will affect animals and the experience).

Had a superb afternoon with Udayanga from Yala Leopard Eye Safari at Bundala today. We practically had the whole reserve to ourselves. It’s bursting with flora and fauna that took my breath away at times. The birds number of birds are stunning and Udayanga allowed us the time to just sit and watch. We also saw monkeys, buffalo, golden jackals, crocodiles and lots of elephants at very close proximity, which was so special.

Udayanga was so fun and informative, and also bought me a surprise birthday cake which was really thoughtful. What an unforgettable day - thank you!!

What an outing we had with Siri today!
His outstanding power of observation made a huge difference. My son is quite a skilled birdwatcher - but having Siri and his fantastic eyes on the prizes elevated the games significantly. We had binoculars, but he with bare eyes saw so many bids and pointed them out to us. It made our day. He was a great driver. At one point backing up 300 yards so could spot two Indian Thickny birds. Sweet guy also. We saw nearly 50 first time sightings. ! Can’t recommend Siri enough.

We booked Chaminda as our guide to take us on a 3 hour afternoon tour at Bundala after reading good reviews for him on TA. The national park has amazing scenery & wildlife, we saw over 30 bird species including the very rare Osprey along with crocodiles, wild boar, star tortoise and were lucky enough at the end to see 8 of the parks 10 Elephants. The lagoons, bush & beach are definitely worth a visit, the park only had 4 other jeeps that we saw so very quiet & a different feel to the larger safaris. Chaminda our guide was very knowledgeable along with the national park tracker who rode with us and spotted things we wouldn’t of seen & knew lots of info about the wildlife. We visited from Tangalle and Chaminda also arranged a good priced taxi to & from our hotel. Glad we visited & also chose Chaminda as our guide, we booked him on: +94713095115

We had previously visited Yala and found it so busy and not what we expect as a safari with 30 jeeps speeding through the park and surrounding a herd of elephants.
As we enjoy spotting birds we decided to try Bundala hoping this would be a somewhat calmer wildlife experience. What a great decision this was, providing a totally different and memorable experience.
Having spent some time searching for a guide, I came across Srimal. Srimal lives immediately outside the park and is so knowledgeable and passionate about the birds and other animals. He provided and great tour, spotting many different birds and animals for us, from the many wading birds to the amazing eagles and falcons (including the beautiful Shaheen falcon).
Near the end of our safari we found about 15 elephants close to the track and we were able to stop extremely close to them. Rather than a short stop to finish on time, we sat watching these amazing animals for about 30 minutes wih Srimal explaining the group dynamics such as the tusker stopping any other males approaching the 1 female.
Such a memorable ending to a great afternoon.
Thank you Srimal.
With only a few jeeps in the park, the safari was far more what one would hope for

One of the best places to see birds but no flamingos now. Neither any elephants we have seen -maybe December is not the time to observe them. compare to Yala, it not full of safari jeeps.

This park was stunning. We used Srimal as our guide due to the many reviews here and were not disappointed. He was very friendly and spoke good English and had great knowledge of all the species in the park. We saw many different birds, animals, crocodiles etc.
We wanted to see an elephant and Srimal did everything he could to make this possible. We ended up extending our tour and driving the long way back, and amazingly he found what we were looking for.
Highly recommended guide and park.

We got here as the park opened and it was a fantastic experience. It's generally billed as a bird watching park, but we saw plenty of Elephant, Crocodiles and monkeys as well as lots of different birds.

Going early morning was recommended by our guide and he was certainly right.

Bundala was much more peaceful than Yalla
