In dire need of accessibility
Jun 2019 • Family
Not many people are aware of the existence of a govt run trout farm in Sangla. Amongst those who know, the challenge to access the farm is insurmountable. Infact thelast stretch of the approach road is to be covered on foot through a beautiful fine forest with cascading waterfalls in between.
The farm is a breeding one, but they also sell in retail to the fish lovers. Out of 3 tanks, 2 tanks host larger trouts meant for breeding, and the 3rd tank hosts smaller catches where 5 decent size trouts will weigh upto 1 kilo. The cost was 450/kg.
This place is recommended for a visit, if you are not doing anything significant in Sangla.

Sangla Trout Farm

It’s on the far bank of the river from Sangla and needs a bridge to cross from the town. It also falls on the popular trekking route from Sangla to Batseri. You can buy fresh trout here caught in front of you.

Worth a Visit
May 2018 • Family
To reach this farm run by Himachal Pradesh Govt. you have to cross the bridge from Kupa on Karchham - Sangla road and drive for 3-4 kms. along the bank of Baspa River till you reach a broken bridge. From the bridge the farm is at a distance of around a kilometer. It was a beautiful walk through a village on the lap of Mother Nature. It is a small farm with number of water tanks having trout fishes of different sizes.

Must for fish lovers

It took almost an hour to reach trout farm from our resort at Sangla and the leisurely walk was really a pleasure. Windong village path took us to a narrow bridge over Baspa river. We crossed Baspa and reached on other side, from where the bird's eye view of Sangla valley is simply awesome. We could see old Kamru fort atop a lofty hill. After crossing a small river called Ruktikhola we reached at a pine forest and found the gate of Trout Farm. There is a big lawn beside the long fish pond. A person took us to the place. We bought one kg trout fish at fixed government rate and took it to our resort.

Exciting

Visited this place in October last year and tried my hand at fishing after getting permission, but was not successful.
The Trout Farm of Sangla was set up by the Himachal Pradesh fisheries department, to protect and raise the Trout fishes. This is a popular tourist attraction in the Sangla region and is visited by thousands of visitors every year. In order to enjoy fishing here, tourists have to get prior permission from the fisheries department.

The Trout Farm fosters various types of prized trouts and the tourists can experience angling here, especially in the months of October as it is the best time for fishing in Sangla. One can fish for brown and rainbow trouts, as the farm is well stocked with such fishes. A large number of fishing enthusiasts visit this amazing place every year to experience fishing.

Beautiful!
Apr 2016 • Family
For those who have reviewed this place saying there is nothing much, I am really not sure what more they were looking for (dinner and a show ;)?)

The farm is situated in the most beautiful location and just walking down to it is a delight! The trout farm is just like and other that you would find. We bought some fish for 350 a kg and Kinner camps staff cooked it for us- delicious! This one really deserves the saying, it's the journey and not just the destination that you have got to appreciate!
