Peaceful, small reserve and on a cool, windy overcast day we did not expect much, how wrong we were. We knew there were tawny owls in the woods as the friendly warden had indicated where we could locate them. Two huge chicks were motionless on a branch being whipped around by the wind and what a view we had, we... More

I. Have been to staveley nature reserve many times with my daughter and grand children and always had a pleasant time. Two weeks ago I took a friend who hadn't been before and she very much enjoyed herself. We took the path around the whole of the nature reserve and stopped off at the observatory to catch a glimpse of... More

Lovely walks that are accessible with a pram in good weather, and you can get to some of the hides also being in the floor as well as claiming stairs. Seeing nature at its best, a range of birds ducks, otters etc Parking is tight, but even if it's busy you hardly see any one. It's a beautiful walk in... More

Had a fantastic trip out here, mind you the good weather certainly helped. The trees were still in bud in the woodland area and so we were able to spy the varieties of birds easily with our bins. It was alive and noisy with Chiff Chaffs, Black Caps and even a flock of Hawfinch! We thought we were watching Waxwings... More

I never tire of walking round Staveley Nature Reserve and although it's in a large village with the towns of Boroughbridge and Knaresborough nearby, you feel that you are miles from anywhere. It's a place you can visit all year round and the different seasons bring different views, ambience and wildlife. Always plenty of birds and animals to spot and... More

This has got to be one of North Yorkshires hidden gems. The layout of the reserve offers access to all & there are several well placed hides located on the easily accessible paths. There is one rather large observatory that offers a full 360 degree view of not only the West lagoon, but the surrounding fields, which is just a... More

Escape to your inner self ; walk unmolested by hordes ; reflect on the generosity of spirit of others who have planned and worked to create he hides ,the large ten acre pond/lake , the walks . . A real haven for wild life ; and clearly a well managed reserve. Thank your lucky stars for the benefactors ,be they... More

This facility is operated by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. It has a small car park and has a wooded area and two lagoons attracting many birds and mammals. There are good level paths through the woods and in the vicinity of the lagoons, although if wishing to proceed on further paths, they are less suitable for pushchairs etc. There is a... More
