About Bike & Tours
Day Tour and Overnight Tours to Bukit Piton Forest Reserve can be experienced by travelers via Bukit Piton Wildlife Safari, in Malaysian Borneo. It is managed and run by Bike and Tours team in Lahad Datu, Sabah. Bukit Piton is a first class forest reserve and an extension on the Danum Valley Conservation Area that is separated by the Segama River. Bukit Piton became a secondary forest due to 2 sets of fire and unsustainable logging practices. However, over the years NGOs like WWF and NPOs like Brothers Cycling have contributed towards replanting and reforestation activities and hence has welcome native orangutans and other endangered species such as the slow loris, storm storks back to their home in Bukit Piton. A tour to Bukit Piton is an eye opening experience to see how tree planting contributes to a richer forest eco system and welcoming healthier habitat for the orangutans and other wildlife.

Where to start... Amazing hospitality from Itisha, Simon and their staff. Looked after us from beginning to end. Nothing was too much for them. Designed a wonderful itinerary for Sepilok, Kinabatangan wetlands, Bukit Piton overnight stay, Tabin, cycling and snorkelling trip. Seamless transport between each part of the trip. So many highlights but the most reassuring aspect was their care and attention to detail. We loved our stay at Lahad Datu - wonderful accommodation, the best food all holiday at their B&B - wonderful breakfasts and amazing dinners - well worth dining there in the evening. Stunning lunch after our cycle which, again, was well thought out with plenty of support for the kids. If you’re thinking of a holiday to see the best parts of Sabah, don’t think twice - email Itisha with your plans, sit back and watch the best holiday you could possibly imagine be arranged for you.

Our Guide Andri took us to Bukit Piton, a secondary rainforest project where near a Palm Plantation is being raised a new rainforest. The night drive was the best! We saw so many night creatures! slow loris, flying squirrel, flying lemur, moonrat, civets, howls! During the day we also found 3 oranguthans! They also have accommodation there but we didn't have time to stay overnight. We were greeted with fresh fruits and cake and we learnt about the destruction and also about the efforts of preservation of the forests in Sabah! Its hard work and all funding is welcome!

Bukit Piton is a special place. Being a secondary forest, it is a lot easier to spot animals there. Barely half an hour in this reserve and we had already seen the resident elephant Jimbo, 2 orang utangs and red leaf monkeys. And things got even better at the long night drive, where we saw several flying squirrels, a flying lemur, slow loris, civet cats, all sorts of birds - some sleeping on the long grass - and even a few leopard cats. We overnighted in the forest where we stayed with a family of forest caretakers. It is a basic accommodation without electricity and no glass in the window, but it is certainly the real jungle experience, with the sounds of the forest lulling you to sleep. The lack of a fan had us a little worried at first, but the forest cools down at night and we didn’t miss the fan. What makes this place extra special, is that the visitors can be a part in the restoration of this forest by planting some trees. We highly enjoyed this, knowing these trees will be cared for for 3 years and will become fruit bearing trees so the animals will have food. If you want a good chance of seeing wild animals far from the beaten track, this is a place worth visiting.

We thank you very much for contacting Bike and Tours for the overnight tour in Bukit Piton. We are glad you enjoyed the jungle experience and safari. The tree planting project is something Bike and Tours cares for dearly as it is the travelers/naturalists way of giving back to the forest. To provide a better home for the wildlife and it is our hope that this project continues to be a success despite the obstacles we face at times. We thank you for your contributions and we look forward to meet you here again in the future. Warmest regards from Lahad Datu, Borneo, Itisha, Simon and team

Amazing experience ! We drove 3 times through the forest: in the evening, during night and in the morning. We spotted a Lot of animals such as Orang utan , elephants, mouse deer, flying squirrels or Hornbills. Very nice and caring staff , very yum food ! All of it in the middle of that remote stunning area. As it is a replanting Project to protect the Forest and its Wildlife you can plant some trees by ur own, as we did. All in all a 5/5 :)

This is one of the best places to see wildlife in Sabah! From Orang Utan to elephants and all sorts of night creatures. The wildlife experience is combined with a tree planting project trying to restore the forest of Borneo. The accomodation you don´t stay much in the bed anyway as you got out on a late night safari and on an early morning ride. The accomodation serves great food and you even get a short introduction into the forest and animals in Sabah.
