This is clear water beach very calm and good for small kids, secure and not crowded at all. There is no parking areas around and you cannot access the beach in your car, so you might need to park next to the highway.

By far my favourite beach I visited in my month in the country, although this is the only beach I visited on the Caribbean side. Beautiful sand and nice warm water. Waves were very small in mid October so not the best time to surf

A real nice beach to visit. Its clay colored sands, its calm warm water and the wide palm tree forest welcomes you to stay for a long time. Relax!

While in Puerto Viejo, this is the place to go surfing or like me, just go and watch (photograph) surfs riding the Caribbean waves!

This is an unspoilt beach, with bars across the road, but no sun lounger or parasol which makes it a beautiful spot. You do need to be prepared if you want to spend time here, but well worth a visit for the views.

I was there for vacation with my wife, we think that Gandoca Manzanillo is so beautiful. Puerto Viejo it's relaxing, the Caribbean food is delicious. There's too many restaurants and bar.

We visited and stayed a full day and had no problems finding space for our 8 person group. A bit bigger waves but no problems for adults. Clean beach. We did have to move a bit due to ants. Overall a quite good beach where...More

We took a long walk down this beach. It was not crowded. The ocean was beautiful. We met a couple of friendly beach dogs along the way.

Belize, Guatemala, Honduras or Costa Rica & Panama (3 Replies)
We (2 adults & 2 children 14 & 12) have the choice of either 13 nights Costa Rica or 12 nights Belize for our first ever and possibly only visit to Central America. Whilst in either of these places we would like to fit in at least one other country, so thinking 10 nights Costa Rica and 3 nights Bocas Del Toro beach, or 9 or 10 nights Belize and 2 or 3 nights Puerto Cortes area beach in Honduras, and also while in Belize a day trip over the border into Guatemala. Can anyone tell...More

I'd choose Belize/Guatemala and leave off Puerto Cortez - really a pretty poor idea imho.

Rain Jacket, umbrella? (8 Replies)
We will be there 6/5-6/15 staying at Playa Negra and Playa Cocles. Should we pack rain jackets AND umbrellas or would one be better than the other? We will be traveling with young children. Trying to bring the least amount of stuff possible.

Maybe cheap travel umbrella. Raincoats you just sweat in them. But honestly, you probably will not need them. Most rain comes at night and even now when it comes in the day, it seems to be only about 1 hour. But I always when traveling is just pack a small compact able umbrella. Hope you enjoy your trip. Cheers, Colin.

Just back from Costa Rica/Caribbean Side, our thoughts (15 Replies)
We have just returned from our 10 trip to Costa Rica (7/21-7/30, 2017) and wanted to share some of our thoughts and impressions, in no particular order. We stayed our first night in San José as we knew the drive would be long and got in mid afternoon. We stayed at the Hotel Santo Thomas, which we highly recommend. Before arriving we worked with them to get a rental car and the rate was cheaper than using one of the big name companies and picking up at the airport. The hotel is clean and...More
