Tucked away in an isolated region of Italy in the southern Alps, the rental shop is hard to spot, but well worth the visit. Trails are lengthy and well-maintained. Proprietors speak very little English, but I spent a marvelous four hours on trails in meadows with views like that below, and in woods with a higher degree of difficulty. Proprietors speak almost no English but are very friendly and helpful, and, with a little help from Google Translate and some rudimentary Italian, you will have a marvelous experience when the conditions are good.

Lovely scenic drive and an easy walk (but take walking shoes) through a lovely tranquil forest. Families picnicking with their children on the way in, horse rides, a small hermitage to visit. Keep driving (about 10 more km) to visit the stunning village of Pescocostanzo.
