Mass is celebrated in this church at least once a week and visitors during the summer either have to go then to see inside or go on one of the daily tours. If not you will find the church is closed due to conservation needed to keep the preserve artwork within. It is a beautiful church within and the artwork from the 11th century is amazing to see.The church was built in 888 by Abbott Hatto III.

If you are planning to go to the island of Reichenau be prepared knowing that it is many beautiful locations and churches to see, nothing else. I would say all of the churches on this island are pretty good. Nothing crazy :)

The church is been build around 800 a.C, so 1.200 years ago.
The original paintings are still vivid and visible.
Due to conservation issues the church is only during wintertime constantly open for visit. During summertime there are only 2 guided tours daily. So better check the net before visiting

For everyone interested in the history of the monastic way to colonize europe Reichenau is a must. On the island survives only three churches but they are well preserved and inserted into a context of fields and old houses. It's worth to see them

This church features amazing medieval wall painting, protected for centuries after they were painted over and only rediscovered in the late 19th century. To preserve these delicate works of art from dust and humidity the church is open to visitors from October-April, but from May-September by by guided tour only. The tourist information centre on Reichenau can confirm times but as of May 205 these were 1230 and 1500 most days. The tour is in German only but there is a very small museum just across the Pirminstrasse near the church which contains copies of the paintings with explanations in English which are basically what the guide says. Well worth visiting.
