Our time with Cathy and Nigel was the highlight of our trip to the Loire Valley. They were so incredibly knowledgeable about the region, and two of the nicest people we've ever met. We learned a ton about the wine of the region and had a great time doing it. This is an absolute must-do for anyone coming to the Loire Valley. We couldn't recommend Le Tasting Room enough!

I cannot say enough good things about this experience. Cathy and Nigel are the nicest pair. Their hospitality and knowledge of wine and food is exceptional. They bring the best wines they know of for you to taste and experience. You then share a gourmet meal and can visit a local winery to continue your education of this appellation. I particularly like how the wines are not limited to one or two producers. This truly is their favorite wine shared with you. The discussion with Cathy helps you get a much deeper understanding of the wine and terroir of the Loire Valley. It’s a quick and easy train from Paris to come visit. Cathy is an excellent communicator as you plan your visit with Le Tasting Room, and will help ensure you have a wonderful experience.

Thank you so much to taking the time to write a few words about us. It was such a lovely day, helped by the glorious end of season weather and your good company. When guests are so open and obviously keen to absorb everything they can, it's a real pleasure for us. Hoping you discovered some other little gems in Bordeaux after your visit to the Loire.

I organised this as a present for my boyfriend's birthday and we have such a brilliant time. As other reviewers have said, Cathy and Nigel have put so much thought into their tours and made things as straightforward as possible. For example Cathy gave me her WhatsApp details so I could easily ask questions and we were picked up from / dropped off at our hotel (no need to organise taxis from Amboise). We did the tasting with two other people. Cathy and Nigel are warm and friendly and created an atmosphere which encouraged everyone to get talking and ask questions - Cathy made clear there is no such thing as a stupid question. I really appreciated that, there is no fun in being at a tasting where everyone is afraid to speak. On the way to the house we stopped in local vineyards and Cathy and Nigel told us about the harvest. At the house, Cathy does the wine tasting part and she is knowledgeable, fun and passionate. She also asked how much people knew about wine generally and the Loire specifically so she could tailor the level of the tasting. The wines she had selected were interesting - not the most obvious Loire wines. After the tasting we had lunch cooked by Nigel - which was delicious - and sat in their beautiful dining room and talked, mostly about wine! Cathy had even bought a cake for my boyfriend. I could not recommend this more highly.

Our entire experience was excellent and we highly recommend Le Tasting Room for an introduction to the Loire Valley and high-quality winemaking. The food and wine was delicious, and we felt that the experience was a great value. Cathy and Nigel are very friendly, hospitable people and I would absolutely schedule with them again when we are next in the Loire Valley. The day began at 11am with a wine tasting and educational presentation by Cathy on French winemaking generally, and the Loire Valley region specifically. We then had a delicious meal with more wine and further discussion of Loire Valley winemaking before proceeding to visit a winemaking operation and returning by car through vineyards, ending around 6pm. While we have had delicious wine, we are relatively uneducated about it. I had expressed interest in advance about organic / biodynamic / natural winemaking and Cathy and Nigel were prepared to speak about it. What I liked most about our day with them is that our discussion was less focused on what we tasted and smelled in wine, and more focused on the technical mastery of the winemakers that they poured. Cathy and Nigel have a commanding knowledge of winemaking and yet were able to explain the technicalities in an accessible way that we could understand. I learned about wine regulation in France, different methods of pruning and grafting grapevines, different strategies for selecting and picking grapes, methods for maintaining soil and vine health and dealing with pests, and how winemakers are adapting to climate change. I had also expressed interest in cheese-making in the region, and Cathy and Nigel arranged for Kim Brindel to join us for the day. She prepared a cheese plate with a selection of cheeses from the Loire Valley region for one of our lunch courses. She reviewed the best practices for assembling a cheese plate and discussed etiquette for presenting and serving the cheese. And the cheese itself was delicious! Stay tuned because Kim plans to introduce a cheese-tasting experience for visitors.

I was delighted to read your lovely, in-depth review of your experience with us last year and thank you so much for taking the time to write it. It's always a pleasure to share our love for the Loire and its wines and it's lovely to be able to respond to a particular area of interest. After a difficult 18 months, reviews will be important for us to get our business back on track so I particularly thank you for helping us to do that. Hoping you are well and healthy and sending warm regards from Noizay.

This experience came as a recommendation from a coworker. Everything about the trip was great. Both Cathy and Nigel were very very welcoming and friendly from the moment we met them at the train station until we left. They welcomed us into their home (which is very beautiful), and we spent the day learning about French wine and tasting a lot of it too. They also cooked us a delicious meal (Nigel is a very good chef), and had a ton of local French cheese for us to nibble on. Towards the end of the day we went to tour a local winery before heading back to the train station. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
