Drinks are good and reasonably priced . Good selection of cocktails for those wanting something different.
Food felt cheap and cheerful some looked potentially frozen food shoved in the oven.
Sticky floor where drinks not properly mopped up

I have given up eating in here after many chances of hoping the food would be up to standard... every time I have been let down by 1 thing or another in this place...2 quid extra for pulled pork on nachos which is barely a spoon full, under cooked garlic bread sent back twice ......never again.

I feel of late the service, food and décor at the Lancer are slipping a bit. I understand the previous chain went into administration, but now under a different company I think it's time they started paying a bit more attention to detail.
It was great for the town when the Lancer opened a few years back, a change from the all the loud sports offerings from the other town centre pubs. It was smart, had good music. Then slowly it started to go a bit downhill, a couple of toilet seats in the ladies were missing for at least a year. In the meantime Wetherspoons opened the Swan, which became the place to go. The Lancer then 'upped' their game and had a refurb, which had a more cafe-bar feel about it. They launched a new menu, which was probably better than Wetherspoons. Unfortunately it has slowly began to decline again. The portions have shrunk, in particular the Mexican Burrito. It used to be massive, really tasty and rival a dish you would get in a Mexican restaurant, but now I reckon it's half the size. They regularly run out of things too. They do a good breakfast but can vary in size each time you go. I went in before Christmas and they had run out of house wine!
The staff all seem just a bit fed up, apart from one chap with black spiky hair, he is really friendly and helpful. The other's seem to just want their shift to come to an end.
Come on the Lancer! sort it out, its a nice pub, you just need to up your game again! Leighton Buzzard needs you!

Every Saturday night, only two staff on the bar. Unbelievable. Can regularly wait up to or more than 30 minutes to be served. There are enough tills why not employ more staff.

Visited the pub last night for a meal
With the family. Of the 04 meals we ordered only 2 were available, which of course we didn't find out until 10 minutes for the first dish, and then another 10 minutes for the second.

More concerning was the barman, who had a complete 'Im bored' attitude with no attempt to make us feel welcome, or encourage us to re-order. Whereas I understand Sunday evenings will not be the best time in terms of menu availability, I do not understand passive aggression. We left as it sickened me to give any more of our time to such a backward place.

Came in last night just 2 of us , big nice actual pub with good layout and lots of potential.
The ginger shaven headed/bald barman with glasses didn't even try and hide his surliness. No interest in being polite, but hey maybe he's just having a bad day.
Beer was nice, lots of kids running around and you can tell the clientele..... perhaps may not be the nicest either, maybe this is what had contributed to the bar mans demeanour!?
Who knows! Perhaps we just had a bad run of it but first impressions means we wouldn't be back in a hurry. We didn't try any food , only stayed for one then went next door.

Switched to here when the Swan got too busy & mediocre. Saturday night is lively with a age-mixture crowd!

Rancid gristle on a grimy plate. Previous drinker’s spittle on the glasses. Walls sticky with grime, and toilets fetid. The place is not my cup of tea

Basic pub grub so don’t expect a lot but each time I’ve met friends here over the past year our orders have been wrong and/or cold. Used to be good value years ago but peaks and dips with new staff.
