A visit to the island is an absolute must! We caught the 10am ferry from Landskrona. The views across the Oresund are amazing. Once you reach the island, you can either hire bikes to get around or walk. We chose to walk as the island is very small and you get to see more in my opinion. It is simply beautiful. Unspoilt nature at its best. Pretty little houses and few cars. The only drawback was that it seemed to be party day for teenagers who had also come over on the ferry. They charged around the island on the bikes done with loud speakers blaring out music!
There is a lovely shop in the centre of the island where we stopped to buy lunch.
The ice cream shop in the harbour sells tasty ice cream and don’t forget to visit the silver jewellery shop hidden in the harbour area. Just gorgeous! A fantastic day out!

So worth a quick day trip. We took the afternoon ferry. There is a bus that takes you around the island. Walked up to the church and then to the Hven distillery. There we had a delicious dinner, the bus took us back for the last ferry to Landskrona. Gorgeous island with beautiful scenery.

There is enough said about this island by everyone so all I can add is some practical tip:

1. book the ferry in advance. It has been exceptional busy summer for Sweden. Nearly all seats were booked (Landskrona - Ven). When you book, they also ask for time of return. It was difficult for us to give an estimate. Good thing is that the tickets are flexible. So if there are seats over, you can let your tickets change when checking in at the ferry.

3. Book a bike in advance will save time waiting. There is only one bike rental on the island. Bike and bus are the only way to get around island. You can choose from bikes for adults and children, tandem, bike small trailer (for transporting food and cool box), etc.

4. There are 3 beaches on the island. They are worth a visit. If you are on bike, it can be a long climb from the beach back to the main road.

5. Dress for the weather/beach/activity.

There are enough public toilets on the island. the same goes for restaurants.

We didn't go on a whiskey tour because it was only in Swedish on that day. So it is also worth checking it with the brewery before.

This island is excellent for a day trip or overnight relaxed holiday. The winning points are the peaceful setting, with not too many attractions to distract you, and depending on the time of the year, beautiful landscape. When we visited early May, the rapeseed flowers were midway blooming (give or take another couple of weeks for full bloom). We saw yellow rapeseed patches with deep blue sky and turquoise sea background (and in many spots, perfect reflections on the surface of small ponds). Wildlife was abundant. It's very easy to spot hares, pheasants, ducks, seagulls and other sea birds.

Bike hire and an outdoor picnic (weather permitting) is a must. There seems to be only one bike hire near the south ferry terminal (the one that goes to Landskrona). The bikes were very well maintained and had many varieties i.e. for children, tandem with a child, tandem with an adult, a cart to bring a toddler or picnic pack, additional basket and bike gear. It's not very expensive - SEK 80 for an adult bike for a day's rent. There were well defined bike routes, complete with map, around the island. The terrain is largely flat but on occasions hilly, that you need to get off the bike and push it uphill if you don't rent an additional bike gear. The roads were fairly quiet so it's quite safe for children. There were occasional cars and buses - need to be careful when passing them in narrower, rocky (and dusty) roads.

There were restaurants, small shops, a pub, B&Bs scattered across the island. In the peak summer season, it's wise to book an accommodation in advance. A night stay in a double room costs around SEK1,100 - 1,300 including breakfast and linen. You can find a list of B&Bs and contact details in www.landskrona.se. Otherwise, it's not difficult to just go there and find one on the spot given the island is so small (provided it's not peak season). There is also a camping site with barbecue pits.

This is a top attraction! You take the boat from Landskrona (Öresunds Diamant - The Diamond of Öresund). There is a lot to do. The best way to get around the island is by bicycle - you can rent them when you get there. There is also bus and taxi. Visit the museum of Tycho Brahe, buy things from the small art stores around the island, eat home made icecream, herring, drink whisky from the distillery or eat in one of the many restaurants. A coffee shop in the boat village of Bäckviken. Visit the old church and look at the view at Backafall. There is also a camping, beach, hotel and a general store.

We took the train from Malmo to Landskrona, the bus to the harbour and from there the ferry to Ven (Enquire at the station in Malmo as we found out after the trip that you can buy 1 ticket that will cover all of your transport to Ven instead of buying several tickets like we did).
We rented bikes (100 DKK per bike) and cycled all around the island, which was beautiful.
Please note that by the end of September most restaurants and cafes are closed as it's outside the season.

When you leave the harbour of Landskrona and travel out to the island of astronomist Tycho Brahe, you will find yourself in a different world. Especially if you go there in other months than jun-aug. It is quiet out there. Quiet and with a different pace of life!

Rent bikes and within 30 minutes you are on the other side of the island looking out over Denmark. There are small restaurants, a small grocery and different kinds of accommodation. It all aspires down to this: If you like it quiet and to be on your own, you will like this place - and as me - even love it!

Hven (in Danish) or Ven (in Swedish) was a lovely day excursion to day from Copenhagen - 11/2 hrs on the Spar Shipping line ferry from Havnegade 5 min from Nyhavn.

Out in the countryside, variety of things to do from museums to the distillery to just being the countryside - saw what looked like 'boxing' rabbits in the field. Did not hire a bike walking was much more fun.

We took the early morning ferry from Landskrona and spent a day on Ven. We hired bikes (book them before you arrive) and spent the day cycling around the island - following well maintained tracks and roads - bikes seem to be the main mode of transport on Ven. We followed the map and did a loop of the whole island, taking in beautiful views, the church, the harbour and a couple of beaches too. Then back to return the bikes and take the evening ferry home. A really good day. Great to ride bicycles as a family and it was great that they had a range of different types of bicycle to hire. Loved Ven, we'll be back!
