We were very impressed with our visit to the cellar door. Min the manager was knowledgeable and very down to earth and friendly. She made the visit a level above other wineries we have visited, and we have visited quite a few! The wines were excellent and we walked away with 6 bottles. We also enjoyed the Devonshire tea after the tasting. Definitely worth a visit.

We enjoyed a garden walk and lunch at the Coombes Estate last week. I enjoyed it even more than l thought I would. The garden tour was lovely and informative, great to learn about the life of Dame Nellie Melba, as we wandered through her beautiful estate. The lunch was mouthwatering and the wine excellent. Great acoustics in the converted garage, so although busy, we could all hear each order talk…highly recommend.

We loved everything about our lunch at this very special place. The food was delicious and so were the wines - especially the Fullerton Pinot Noir and the Blanc de Blanc sparkling. Next time we would probably add on a salad to the main course. The service was lovely, the young lady who served us went out of her way to organise the last bottle of Fullerton Pinot Noir that day and entertained us with a story of her grandfather in Delhi - that personal touch topped off a beautiful meal. Thank you very much!

Our table had a great position and view, our selections were very appealing. Seasonal vegetables, peach Melba dessert with sparkling wines were highlights. Attentive wait staff and refined ambience add to the experience. We recommend.

Great lunch with service and food all of the highest standard. As a group with varied dietary requirements, we found great food covering all requirements. Wine range is varied but the highlight was the food. We go out to restaurants for the food. well done guys.

J-am brought such a fun and amazing energy to our experience. She is so knowledgeable and we had a great laugh. Definitely will be back to experience her energy and drink some more delicious wine again soon!
Hopefully she remembers the group of Irish and Brazilians that visited her today!

The fat chips were deep fried, tasteless and left an unpleasant feeling in my throat. The burger at 25 dollars was average and bun wasn't fresh. Would not eat there again. Too expensive for a lunch outing. You basically pay for fussy service and beautiful setting. If you are celiac, be careful th chips are not safe. :(

This was our third visit to Coombe, this time for the garden tour and Devonshire Tea. We'd come with an elderly Aunt and Uncle, their daughter and her husband. The garden tour was interesting and very informative. Nice to hear more about Dame Nellie Melba's interests and private lifestyle as various aspects of the garden were explained. The seating opportunities at some of the "chatting points" were welcome respites for my Aunt.
At the completion of the tour we were shown to the appointed area for our afternoon tea. Once seated we were all (about 20 in the group) we were offered water. After quite a wait the much anticipated scones, jam and cream(or gluten free option) appeared and we were poured a cup of tea or coffee. Unfortunately this was the end of the table service. No offer of a second tea or coffee was forthcoming. It seemed as if the staff felt we'd had what we'd paid for so there was no need for them to re-appear. Not the type of service I'd expected from this style of restaurant! Robotic rather than personal. I was tempted to ask for another cup, but as some of the group had begun to leave opted for more water. Have since heard had I asked for a second cup would have been expected to pay for it! Not a major issue, but just seems a little petty when you've paid $25 for the tour and tea, the offer of an additional cup would have just topped off the afternoon nicely. Sadly not as great a visit as our previous trips.

FOur of us ate lunch on a busy Sunday. All of the food was terrific, especially the mains, we loved the garfish, the lamb and the papardelle. We also loved the deserts - the Peach Melba Magnum not to be missed. The room is great and the roof to floor windows were open which created a seamless inside/outside area. The service was, however, horrible. Front desk tried to convince us that the rest of our party "couldn't possibly be" at the table and wanted us to take a seat while they checked whether the table was ready (at the start of a lunch service). Rest of the party was at the table. Our waiter had no idea. He cleared the entire table after entrees and then refused to reset it (after several requests) so that mains arrived without any cutlery on the table, he also refused to refill water glasses and wine glasses. Rest of the tables were offered bread, we weren't (which was picked up by another waiter). We were continually asking other waiting staff for help. Nobody seemed really interested, the type of restaurant where you leave and they ignore you. Such as shame as the food and the design of the room were so good.

Had a family birthday here. The food was good but the service service was some of the the worst I have experienced.
The service failings started from when we arrived (on time) for our Sunday lunch reservation. We were promptly told that the table wasn't ready and would be 15 mins. No apology or explanation was offered. Upon getting to our table, nobody took our drinks order for some time and the wait staff appeared to avoid eye contact so as to not serve us.
We finally ordered from a very surly waitress who clearly would have preferred to be anywhere else except working in the restaurant, however the main meals took almost an hour to arrive after ordering and after the entrees. We were served bread after our entree but at the same time were told we could only have a small amount as it was late in the day and they were running short (should that be a paying customers problem?).
While waiting for the mains we attempted once again to order drinks (non-alcoholic) and water for the table. Not only did staff avoid serving us, but we needed to ask three times for a diet coke before it was finally served (and then it was not diet).
Overall a very poor service experience from a range of staff which marred an otherwise lovely venue, food and occasion.

My sister and friends from NZ have celebrated Peach Melba day, in honour of Dame Nellie for 40 years . On this , the anniversary, they would love to all come over from NZ , to visit the place where she lived. It is a fun , grand occasion! A most important part of the celebration every year is to eat Peach Melba and wear pyjamas . There will be 8 of us. The date would be January 2nd.
Although this is perhaps, a little unorthodox, it is an extremely important occasion that has never been missed in the whole 40 years. I hope you are open to the idea .
Many thanks
Lesley

Hi Lesley
We were at Coombe Estate yesterday and I re-mentioned your request. They received my email with your request. At first they thought it was someone just having some fun. When Petra noticed that the email was from me, she said "no I know this lady (as we have had a big function there) and she would be serious about this request.
If you look up Baringa Villa which is our bed and breakfast and send an email I will share further what they said as they are seriously considering your request.
