I think the most beautiful of all Canyon is the Fortaleza. Its free to get in and the canyon isn't visited for many tourists.
We decided to take a bus in Florianopolis to Praia Grande. There was not direct bus to town. The owner of Hostel Nativos Canyon picked us up in Torres.

The Fortaleza is a little farther, but definitely worth it. but it is advisable to use tennis to trail , because there was plenty of water and mud along the path.
The track that seems to be quite interesting is that it gives access to Pedra do Secredo.

A must see for anyone coming to Porto Alegre or Florianopolis - Fortaleza and Itaimbezinho are the two best-known of over 20 canyons belonging to the same geologic range. Located over 1000m high, they are located about 30km from the ocean. Very nice combination of deep green of highland grass, trees and the gray of stone cliffs. The outdoor adventurous will find several trails to explore. And if you are lucky will be able to see snow.

In the Serra Geral National Park, one of the attractions is the Fortaleza Canyon, which is 8 kms (5 miles) long, 900 meters deep and 1,500 mts wide. There are several trail options to get there, including some that take visitors inside rocky formations. There are also high waterfalls, and long trails for hiking – some of them are more distant and more difficult and must only be taken in the company of a specialized guide, hired in the Aparados da Serra National Park. Great place!

A fantastic scenery from the top observation platforms, overseeing a large portion of the Aparados da Serra National Park, with its lush vegetation, deep rock walls.
A must in any trip to the South of Brazil

Canyon Fortaleza is more beautiful than Itaimbezinho, IMO. There's actually no infrasctrucutre (and no entrance fee) but the nature is splendid.

Just be sure to go there in a clear, sunny day. You may see even the ocean from there.

To get there, just drive straight ahead when you are in Cambará do Sul. If you don't have a car, try to get a tour or a taxi -- there's no public transportation going there. Drive past the entrance until you see a parking place. From that point on is an easy walk to the viewpoint area.

Take your time and enjoy the place.

I think thi one is more exiting than Itaimbezinho Canyon.
It is completely free of men made things. The road to there is impossible; to add to the adventure andwith the walk and view you have to be carefull, because it is easy to fall down the Canyon.
For me this adds to all the pleasure, but do not go here with small children, because there is no protection what so ever, which makes it really dangerous

Hard get there. It's really advisable to make it on an off-road 4x4. But the canyon is amazing, breathtaking, and worth of the hardship. We got a wonderful sunny day. Check on weather conditions before going: rain can ruin the path even more, and too much fog can compromise the visit.

1 place you should go!
This is the best view ever!

However make sure that will not to Rain, because could be dangerous. Also, I do not recommend it for family with Kids.

When i visited was 28 degres Celsius, and almost 11h and the wind was so strong that we avoid get closer to bordes.

Although the dirt road there was terrible (especially since it had recently rained heavily) we still managed to make the trip in a small city car (although it was a close call at times, with rocks scraping away at the undercarriage).

No matter how difficult the trip was, however, it was 100% worth it. The landscape in the park is like out of a fairytale, and was probably my favourite part of my trip to Brazil. The trip there from Porto Alegre was also quite nice with a lot of things to see.

If you go, remember to actually cross the big waterfall at the first hiking trail (Pedra do Segredo) and go around to the ledge on the other side. The views there are incredible. Also, bring a lot of water. If it's even close to sunny, it's going to be quite a sweaty experience.
