β€œA wonderful walk in the park”

I did a walk in the park recently . Took the jungle train from Kota Kinabalu to Beaufort but unfortunately had to continue with a taxi to Sipitang, Tenom as the 2nd half of the jungle rail was under repair. Took a RM4 minivan from Tenom (just hang around the bus stand and ask about the minivan to "taman"). The park is well-kept and well- signed. I reckon it will take earnest flora and fauna lovers 2 days to see and understand all species planted there. I took the park"s mini train (basically two carriages pulled by a golf buggy) for a quick overview. Starting clockwise from the left of the entrance if you are facing inward there will be the following=> tropical fruit trees, medicinal herbs, Jungle trees, local honey bees cultivation, modern gardens, trellises, water plants, orchids, cannonball trees. There are accomodations like hostels, chalets and a camping ground which is an island surrounded by lakes. Not far from the hostel is a borneon ironwood patch where uses of the "belian" are displayed . A view tower in the centre overlook the lakes and gardens. Large catfishes can be sighted from here. The other half of the garden (if we continue clockwise) are the admin office, the camping ground, bougainvillaes, cactus or something. The mini zoo has animals from a typical malaysian farm but it was closed. The central garden are planted with flowering trees, herbs and spices from the tropics. Adjacent to the honey bees cultivation are rambutans, langsats, mangosteens trees. Guests are allowed to pick the fruits if they are in season. The weather in Tenom is pleasant, in the low twenties (celcius) that allowed me to walk all day long. There is a cafe for guests for simple kopi and nasi goreng. Don't try the bikes as they don't seem to be in good condition. Need strong legs😁 . I will return again to capture what I missed with a good camera, perhaps with a sleeping bag for an overnight stay.

Awesome place for nature and a good long walk! Plenty to see. Varieties of plants, trees and flowers. Lots of mozzies too! But must go. No fruit trees though. They do have mini train service around the park but only on certain times. I prefer to walk.

This place is located about 20 minutes from the town and it is not so difficult to find as there were lots of signboards along the road. It consists many gardens whereby each garden consists of different species of flowers. Also lots of local fruit trees eg durian, rambutan and mangosteen. If you happened to visit this place during the fruits season ( usually end of the year) you can have all the fruits here for free. Besides varieties of flowers and trees, there is also an animal farm. If you are planning to overnight here, hostels and campsite are also available for rent. I would suggest that you spend at least minimum of 2 hours here because this place is huge and lots of walking to be done. Shuttle Train service is available at 11.30 am daily but it is only one trip per day. Need lots of upgrades and add more fun activities for the visitors especially the children. Worth a visit though while you are here in Tenom. Do wear a comfy attire as you need to do lots of walking.

There are many ways that you can reach this beautiful place. If you're from Kota Kinabalu, you can go there by bus at the bus terminal KK to Tenom town then by taxi or mini bus to this Park or you can bring your own transport more convenient and faster way too or you could catch a train from the Train Station. For us (9 adult and 2 child) we wanted a taste of a bit adventure this time for our family's weekend getaway. We started our journey from Putatan Train Station at 7.55am as per their schedule but the train was delayed for 5 min or so. This train will bring you to Beaufort Town and then you have to change different train which will bring you to Holigowat Station then you change to another train to Tenom Station. The Train fares from Putatan to Beaufort is RM4.45 for adult and RM2.25 for child. From Beaufort to Tenom train fares is RM2.75 for adult and RM1.40 for child. If you are going on weekend be prepared for standing on the train ride until Papar Station and afterwards we get a sit. We reached Beaufort Station at 10 am and have to wait for the next train to Tenom at 1.30pm. We had our lunch at the Station, there are small restaurant and a few convenient stores there. The train ride to Tenom was a bumpy and hot ride but we enjoyed it because we saw many beautiful sceneries along the way. We reached Tenom around 4pm and our chartered van was already there ( I have arranged a transport to take us to the Park and from the Park to KK. MR.Ah Wei 0198727191, he is really helpful and his fees was reasonable).
Arrived at the Park around 4.30pm, the weather was really nice, we stayed at 2 of their chalets which was spacious, nicely built and clean. The chalet is 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen a spacious living room, which are fully furnished. The chalet is RM150 per night which is really cheap. The entrance fee for the Park is RM10 for adult, RM7 for senior citizen and RM5 for child.
The Park itself was refreshing sight. It was well taken care of, the trees, the flowers and the ground was so green. If you're a nature lovers and a jogger, you will appreciate the trails and fresh air all around the park. I can't wait to come back to this place again.

We visited on a day trip from Kota Kinabalu. It was a long drive in one day, but we enjoyed it.
We booked in advance, and arranged a guided tour, which was extremely good value. The park is quite big, and would involve a lot of walking. But they have bikes for hire, and with a guide you get to ride around in a little train.
The park is divided into sections, and our guide gave a knowledgeable & enthusiastic explanation of each. There were sections on wild & hybrid orchids, plant evolution, vegetables & fruit trees (with free samples from anything that was fruiting at the time). If you are into plants - the trip is well worth it. There is a little cafe for refreshments. There is also some accommodation, which we heard is often full at the weekends, so book ahead.
By the way, we were a little put-off by the report in our Lonely Planet guide, which suggests that the place is rather "run down". Nothing could be further from the truth - maybe the place had a recent face-lift?

Upon looking at the map we tried to find the area where the animals were kept, nothing was left. Seems the starved creatures were relocated. Asked the guy up front and he gave little info.
A lot of the trails were in need of maintenance but it was a peaceful, long walk. For the price, not bad. Got lost multiple times, no guide, so maybe prepare for at least 2 hours visit to this park.

The park offers beautiful gardens and nice walks. Apart from group accomodation it also has 3 chalets available with two airconditioned bedrooms, kitchen with microwave, stove and fridge and nice balcony overlooking the lake, for 150 RM p/n. It is at the back of the park in a quiet corner. You only pay he entrance fee of the park only for the first day.
After park closing hours there is no staff to contact, which is not optimal in some situations (we had to switch chalets the next day because some items didn't work).
As it is a a 20 min drive to Tenom town it's best to do some shopping there if you like to stay on the park and do some home cooking.
The chalets are next to the lake so be aware of mosquitos - one needs to burn coils also inside the chalet for protection.
Altogether this stay gave us a nice opportunity to spend a lot of time in a relaxed way in the park

We recommend a 6am departure from KK to make the most of the long but interesting drive to this Agricultural Park, and to spent sufficient time there.
We went on a day tour with Borneo Trails specifically to look at the native orchids - what a treasure no wonder they are locked up.
As it happened we arrived too late to catch the in-park train - and the driver had the key to the lock - so we walked there. Don't you love Sabah, not only did the key then arrive but the park allowed us to stay past closing time.
The walk to the native orchid area included a detour to the (not locked) hybrid orchids, and interesting botanical gardens of all descriptions.

The only sour point is that really, the horse should be fed or put down.
For goodness sake, no need to starve a horse.
The other animals appeared fed.

I recommend Tenom area for the town, the historical story, and this super park. It is a long day from kk - we were 14.5 hours total - and on reflection I would like to have stayed in the hostel style accommodation on site to enjoy the tranquillity of this park.

Bicycle hire is 3RM for the first hour and 1RM afterwards. Suggest just pay for 1st hour after that if you are late to return the bike they will charge you 1rm for every hour you are late.
Minivan to Lagud Sebrang starts from the minivan stop area in front of the train station. It normally stop at the junction and the entrance to the park is approx 1KM walk from junction. But a kind minivan driver drove us in and stop in front of the main entrance. If you know when you will leave you can tell the driver so that he will drove in to the park to pick u up. Fare is 3.50rm per pax and journey is 20-30mins. Walking to the park is not an enjoyable experience as the weather is very hot and nothing much to see.

Native orchid garden exhibition is locked and only the guide has the key. guide is the tram driver and the tram will stop there at 930am, 1130am and 230pm.

Only the restaurant at the entrance was opened the restaurant in the park itself was not open and floors are littered with birds dropping.

Alot of mozzie, for those who is mozzie prone. Bring lots of repellant.

Visited with my wife as part of a small tour group. We started by walking around the park on our own (no group or guide) for an hour. The lake was very pleasant and we walked around it and climbed the tower which gave good views from the top. There is a small zoo but it was closed when we were there.

After the hour was up we reassembled and got in the small wooden "train" which took us around the rest of the park visiting a large collection of bee hives and then the orchid garden with dozens of different types of orchids.

A pleasant visit but regrettably no animals to photo.
