Overrated attraction

If worth to visit, combined with the balloon tour. Unfortunately not in operation during the day because of wind. Generally it's not worth a AAAAA tourist attraction. Nothing much to see.

Not worth the trip out there- just a large hill covered with trees

Very disappointed with this "park". After a 30 minute drive from main downtown area of Tengchong we arrived at a parking lot, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Had to walk through several vendors selling trinkets to get to the ticket station.

Fee is not too high; only ¥40. But we still felt it was overpriced. For extra fees you can: Take a horseback ride (RT or OW) but it is guided by a worker, hot air balloon rides (only available to take in the morning for some reason), and glider rides (also only available in the morning).

You can walk or pay to take a small shuttle to the base of the "volcano" about a 1/4 mile from the entrance. The volcano has 3 sets of stairs with a small rest area at the landing of each.

When we reached the top we were very underwhelmed. View of the area is just ok. It is like a large hill. At the top are a few walking paths. One takes you around the rim, the other into the small crater.

This was the larger of the two volcanos. After this disappointing walk we decided not to go to the second smaller volcano also in the park.

Beautiful and Relaxing
Aug 2015 • Friends
We spent two days in the park. The park itself is a nice walk, up and down, along a river, next to water sprouts, and nice scenery.

It's so nice that we walked the park twice, in opposite routes. We stayed in the park (very expensive but fantastic unit with private hot spring outdoor tub). The park admission is included in the lodging.

It was my most relaxing vacation!

volcano park

great place. a good product of Nature. Its located in the south western parts of the GaoLigongshan Mountains in the Hengduan Range. the oldest volcano in the cluster. Daying Mountain, measuring 8,576 feet above sea level, is the tallest of the volcanoes, with a crater over 328 feet deep and a diameter of 328 yards.

We were disappointed that that park was so commercialized

I know now, after 2 months that in China it is difficult to find a natural setting to explore. China has classified it's natural tourist attractions , paving them, making them very accessible and charging a good deal to visit them. We were hoping to actually climb a volcano, but this was not the case. We walked up 2 long stone flights of steps to access the calderas of the volcanoes. They were really not worth the climb.
One good thing however, since I am over 70, I was admitted for free ! China does take care of their elderly !!
There were a huge number of Chinese tourists who seemed to be having a wonderful time. I guess, that with the millions of expected Chinese tourists, that the government does have to care for it's antiquities making them accessible to the many.

Volcano in China!!!!
Feb 2015 • Friends
It was ok! The area is beautiful, however, there should be a lift for those who aren't able to walk up the many steps that are required to get to the top. It's a great idea to have other activities there such as the balloon lift and the hang glide.

Crater Walk
Jun 2014 • Business
It is ok but not worth the money. To get inside you must walk through maze of sellers with all kinds of kitsch and plants in volcanic rock pots. The walk is simple and around a crater then up a big hill to another crater - nothing too special about it.

Wonderful Place (but not in busy season!)
Dec 2013 • Family
Tengchong volcano Park is not a popular attraction in China, but it is a must-go place in Tengchong. That is why i would not recommend you to go there in Chinese Holiday season such as Chinese New Year, National Day or Labor Day. According to my conversation with friends there, the whole park is fully packed! We were fortunately there in the end of December. The park was so calm and the weather was so good. There were visitors but not many. You cannot miss the hot-air balloon which is only available before noon (closed due to stronger wind in the afternoon). Standing in the balloon basket and taking a bird-eye view of the whole volcano area is so amazing. You can also climb up the volcano and go into the crater, which needs a bit of strength as the stairs are kind of steep. Not very far from the park, there is another geo park of volcanic stones, which is also interesting.

Volcanic area
Feb 2013 • Friends
Interesting place with many volcanoes in the area, a guide said over 80. Some have craters and some do not. Most are dormant or inactive now. In this park you can go either to the crater of a small extinct volcano or to a larger one. We went to the small one, since the large one involved a whole lot of steep stair climbing.

Be sure to visit the small geology museum near the entrance to get a better understanding of how this area was formed. I was there right after Spring Festival ended and attendance was down. During busier times, hot air balloon rides are offered as well as ultralight plane rides.

Vendors lined some of the trails. You can buy a light volcanic pumice stone to rub down the calluses on your feet. Small ones usually go for 2 Yuan; I found one for 1.3 Yuan after some haggling.

Near the entrance to the park is some amazing wood furniture carved from huge Burmese logs.

Pumice Stone County
Apr 2012 • Friends
Tengchong region is no longer volcanically active but it's certainly a lively place with much to offer. The Volcanic Park covers two main areas, including the Large and Small Crater Peaks where an interpretative Museum has been built. it's a short walk to the top of the Small Crater with a circuit around the rim. The Larger Crater is a more strenuous climb which offers very little extra.
Local's sell interesting souvenirs made of the pumice stone, orchids and other local plants.

The other area of the park, included in the price is a further 10 minute drive to an escarpment overlooking the Black Fish River. It's worth the walk down and your driver will pick you up at the other end of the walk. Allow 90mins. The cliff faces of this canyon are a combination of twisted columnar pillars. The river is later joined by azure blue water from an underground spring which makes for the most interesting of hikes.
