The river gorge is beautifully carved and the volcanic pillars and formations along the river are a special geological sight. Continuing along the river and back to a restaurant area and parking lot at the end of the walk is a lovely way to spend the time in nature that has not been too altered.

Black river Valley offers a variety of scenery along the valley floor. First sight is from the escarpment overlooking the river and can be followed up by a 15 minute walk to the valley floor, where a bridge crosses giving access to a walkway upstream to see the spectacularly contorted columnar pillars.
Heading downstream the river passes a spring where water overflows forming a limestone flow, before coming once again to the surface forming a swiftly flowing stream through the woods. Hikers catch glimpses of the azure waters as it pools, widens and levels off.
Just before your driver meets you, there's loads of vendors selling fruit, vegies and barbeques snacks.
