Mate’s Private Driver Tour Guide company is definitely the best tour we have taken in Europe, if not the world. We started looking for a driver about 2 weeks before our trip and came across Mate’s company. Within 10 hours of sending an inquiry, Mate responded with itinerary suggestions and answers to all of our questions. Mate maintained clear communication from the time of our first inquiry until we departed Croatia. He will make sure that you have the best vacation possible in Croatia. Everything from airport pickup to drop-off was done smoothly and we never had to worry about anything.
We were super lucky to get Ante as our tour guide/driver. Ante is funny, intelligent, and personable. He got to know our preferences, likes and dislikes within the first few days and he made sure that we were always comfortable. He is also a very safe driver, and we would’ve never been able to visit all the places we did if it weren’t for Ante. Some highlights include: visiting the oyster farm, swimming together on Island Brac, and taking pictures at Plitvice Lakes. On days when the schedule was too busy or weather conditions weren’t ideal, Ante was very flexible and made impromptu revisions to the itinerary to make sure that we made the most of every day. Our daily trips with Ante were always fun and filled with lots of laughter. We always looked forward to the amazing restaurants he took us to, and we really enjoyed sharing meals together. He joined us on almost every activity/stop and was a part of the family by the end of the trip. Ante is the best guide/friend we could ask for, and he will make sure that your trip is unforgettable.
We had the most amazing trip thanks to the combination of having Ante as an incredible guide and Mate’s organization. We highly recommend Mate Perajica’s tour and Ante as the best tour guide and friend. It will make your trip more than “Dobro ''.
Thank you for everything Mate and Ante! We are looking forward to meeting again in Croatia in the near future :)

Mato delivered an excellent experience. Not only was he able to safely transport me from Zagreb to Split, but he also communicated interesting history and facts about the region. We explored Plitvice Lakes together and he enhanced my time there by providing information and details I would not have known were it not for his expertise.
It is rare to find a driver and guide who does not require the customer to conform to their agenda. One of the aspects that I really appreciated about my time with him is that he is intuitive. Not only did he quickly understand my interests and offer me options, but he was kind enough to pick up on how quickly I could navigate the steps in the park and kept his walk in tune with mine. It’s these little things that make one feel comfortable with a guide. We quickly formed a comfortable relationship where we discussed many aspects of our different lives. As a woman who travels alone, this is a characteristic that allowed me to trust him.
It is without hesitation that I recommend him to anyone who would like to explore this beautiful region. I felt safe, I felt heard, and now I know a great more about the history and geographics of Croatia. I look forward to more excursions with him.

Mate arranged for our group of 4 to be picked up in Dubrovnik and driven to Sarajevo via Mostar and back the next day. We had booked it months ahead with Mate who gave us a firm quote. Pre paying by bank transfer was easy. The only thing we arranged for separately was accommodation at the Hotel Sana which was clean, modern, friendly, and centrally located in the old town of Sarajevo.
Mate sent us a safe-driving, friendly, knowledgeable, English-speaking guide in a modern minivan who stayed with us for the next two days. He not only took us to Mostar and Sarajevo but also took us to other fascinating sites that we were unaware of such as the stone fortress in Pocitelj and the spectacular Dervish house just south of Mostar. A few hours in Mostar was long enough to photograph the bridge from many angles and see the short film about the heroic battle to save it. We also found a bank machine to get a few Bosnian Convertible Marks.
We arrived in Sarajevo in time for dinner and a walk through the city. In the morning we had a tour of the important historic sites of the city and then on to the tunnel museum, not to be missed. Our guide knew the history of the region well and was most valuable in sharing his experiences of life in the city during the siege.
He also found us great places to enjoy regional dishes such as cevapcici in Sarajevo and spit roasted lamb on the Neretva River gorge.
I would definitely recommend Mate to anyone considering visiting this region. The whole trip ran seamlessly due to having an experienced guide that was familiar with the languages, currency, and border crossings in a foreign country where we don't speak the languages.

A wonderful way to travel from Dubrovnik to Split, we spent the day with Josep in a comfortable, leisurely drive from Dubrovnik, there was no hurry and Josep showed us out of the way places, absolutely stunning views. He was very informative and interesting and easy to talk to, he made us feel most welcome. On our way to Split Josep told us about the greenhouses he had where he grew plants in the 'off season' so interesting to hear all about his greenhouses, he asked us if we would like to see them, of course us 2 ladies were very keen, have to say my husband was keen to see how it was done as well. It was very special to see the greenhouses and to see how hard this young man works! As we left he presented my sister and I with the most beautiful bunch of flowers for our apartment, we were so touched by this gesture. When we arrived in Split Josep contacted the lady from the apartment and arranged to meet her, he then parked the van and gave us a quick tour around Split, giving us good tips on where to eat and what to see. It was a truly wonderful experience. As our next stop was Zagreb Josep asked us how we were getting there from Split, we had planned to go on the train, he told us the trains take a long time it would be far better to get a bus/coach, but as my husband suffers from motion sickness and is particularly bad on a bus journey that was not an option for us. We mentioned to Josep that we would like to see the lakes as well, he told us to chat to Mate, he was sure it could be arranged. We did exactly that, and in a flash our trip to Zagreb via the lakes was arranged and Josep was our guide/driver. What a wonderful day we had, we arrived at the lakes and it has snowed overnight so the upper lakes were closed, but that didn't deter from the beauty and the amazing walk we did around the lakes that were open. As it had snowed and the paths were a bit slippery Josep insisted that he accompany us around the lakes, giving us valuable information and some really good laughs along the way. From the lakes we headed to Zagreb, again there was no mad hurry, we stopped for coffee's along the way, chatted and had a great time. On the journey to Zagreb Josep told us more of the history of Croatia and the war, sharing valuable knowledge with us, showing us places and buildings that we would never have seen otherwise, or known their significance. On arrival in Zagreb, once again Josep contacted the lady for our apartment and arranged a meeting place, as he drove us into Zagreb he showed us different places of interest and explained how to get to them, it was late in the evening and Josep was so kind and considerate he made sure we met with the lady from the apartment and that we got as close to our apartment as possible so we did not have to walk to far with our luggage. We were very sad to say 'goodbye' to Josep as we had made a friend, someone who really cares about others, a genuine kind person.

Private Driver Guide Croatia, owned and managed by Mato is a wonderful choice for any travelers who are looking to be efficient with their time and eliminate stress. Having one of Mato's drivers available for transport truly added to our visit to Croatia. Since their is no rail service that I was aware of and the bus routes are less than perfect, having a driver allowed us to stay on schedule and enjoy each and every moment of our time in Dalmatia.
We were transported from Dubrovnik to Mali Ston to sample oysters and taste wine, then on to Split. Mato helped us plan a visit to island Brac and Tomas our driver and guide was excellent.
If you are planning a multi-day night visit to Croatia
I highly recommend you consider Mato and his crew of drivers, they were professional, courteous, and definitely it was the right decision to keep our itinerary and visit the magical land of Dalmatia/Croatia.

Contacted Mate after Googling Day trips from Split. He replied immediately quoting EUR200 for our family of 6 excluding entrance and wine tasting. We had to change Marinas at last minute from Split to Trogir so there was a surcharge but we stopped off at several scenic locations for photos and a visit to the beautiful Cathedral at Sladic. We enjoyed a fantastic wine tasting at family owned Vineyard followed by a trip to Krk which is simply stunning and a must see. We were fortunate enough to swim at the base of the waterfalls which will be prohibited from Oct 20. Then a scenic walk and drive to our hotel on the promenade in Split where he helped us carry our bags - a very tall, strong man who played 1st division basketball so we didn’t feel so guilty! The next morning he arrive promptly at 11am for our transfer to the airport where again he assisted with luggage. Very personable with great sense of humour and knowledge as a qualified guide and an obvious love and pride for his beautiful country - highly recommended!

What an absolutely amazing 11 days in Croatia! If you are thinking about traveling to this beautiful country, JUST DO IT! And, make sure you hire Mate to plan the perfect itinerary and show you all the magical places in his spectacular country.
We have nothing but great things to say about our experience with Mate for our 11-day private tour. He and Ante helped pack more history, scenic beauty, local experiences, wonderful food and great wine into those 11 days than we could have ever imagined. They both were wonderful guides who became our friends as we visited the many sites from our start in Zagreb, to Plitvice Lakes, to Zadar, Split, Island Brac, Krka National Park, Mostar, Dubrovnik, Montenegro and the Peljesac Peninsula. We have done a fair amount of tourist travel in Europe and we must say, honestly, that this was the best trip we’ve had, by far!
In the weeks leading up to the trip, Mate quickly responded to all of our questions and concerns — I mean, within a matter of minutes. The accommodations he recommended were superb. During the trip, Mate and his associate, Ante, did an excellent job of intuitively recognizing the types of activities we liked best and then tailoring each day’s itinerary in a manner calculated to give us maximum enjoyment. Mate took us to many places we would have never discovered on our own or as part of a group tour. And what made the trip especially enjoyable was Mate’s relationships with hotels, restaurants, wineries and other tour spots. Everywhere we went Mate was greeted with joy and we were given the best rooms, the best tables, and other special treatment. Our recommendation - sit back, relax, and go with whatever Mate suggests!
If you are thinking of hiring a guide for a private tour of Croatia and the surrounding area, you could make no better choice than Mate's service. We recommend him highly, with no reservations. In fact, we can't wait to go back again and discover more of the magic with our new friend.

After searching for a tour company to provide a private roundtrip transfer from Dubrovnik to Split, we came across Mate's company....and we are beyond glad we contacted him. Mate went above and beyond to provide for us the best experience! . He is very knowledgeable and experienced. Our kids enjoyed learning with Mate or simply racing him up the hill at the Forts. Mate made sure we were well taken care of the entire time and even suggested activities along the drive that made our experience so much more amazing!!! I highly recommend Mate for any tour needs you have in Croatia...he is also VERY well connected and got us reservations in places were it was almost impossible to get reservations last minute. This was simply The best decision we could have ever made.

I first contacted Mato for an airport pickup in Split and liked his service so much I booked again for transportation from Split to Dubrovnik, and then a long journey from Dubrovnik all the way to Venice, Italy!
Ante was our driver for the Split to Dubrovnik transportation which also doubled as a mini-tour, as we did some stops in Omis and Ston along the way. Ante was a gracious guide who taught us lots along the way and acted as our impromptu photographer for a few shots :)
Being around Ante felt like hanging out with an old friend. We had such a good time with him that we wanted to book him again.
Instead of flying to Venice, we decided to drive with Ante from Dubrovnik. While long drives like that aren't everyone's cup of tea, we loved it! Ante is not only a very safe and attentive driver but he's also got a great personality to be stuck with in a car for two days. :)
I will continue to recommend Mato's service for anyone in Croatia, big or small trips, especially with Ante as a driver! Ask for him if you can!

We engaged the services of Mato Perajica (owner of Private Drive Guide) in September 2024 for our transfers from Dubrovnik to Split (stopping by Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Split to Zagreb (stopping by Plitvice Lakes National Park) as well as a day-trip from Zagreb to Lake Bled and Ljubljana in Slovenia.
Mato advised us to do the two stopovers, instead of making individual trips, helping us to save money and time. The people whom he assigned for the trips (Ante, Zoran and Goran) were wonderful – safe driving, friendly and helpful with information and guidance. We really enjoyed the trips with these gentlemen. The local guide whom he engaged for a tour of Ljubljana (Katia) was very good and knowledgeable; she made the tour very enjoyable.
After each trip, Mato would text us to enquire about it, wanting to make sure we enjoyed it. Great follow-up. We would highly recommend Mato to anyone who wishes to engage someone to help plan a tour of Croatia, do the transfers from one city to another with stopovers, etc. (https://www.privatedriverguideincroatia.com). It was a great experience for us.

May I know the approximate cost of a driver and tours for 3 adults for 4 days in Croatia?
Written February 13, 2023
Hello,
We are looking for a private driver in car for a 10 day trip to croatia.
any recommendations?
The organized private tours are very expensive.
We can arrange out own accomodation.
Need someone to drive us around.
Thanks

We used private driver in Croatia tours in Croatia and day tripper in Albania. They weren’t inexpensive, but well worth not having to drive ourselves. We didn’t need a driver every day, so we saved $$ that way.
Written July 11, 2022
How much did you pay per day for van with driver please?
Written November 26, 2019
The price isn’t based on daily usage of the van; rather it’s based on your specific, customized tour/where you want to go and factors surrounding that. It’s best to contact the owner directly (website previously mentioned in other posts) for price quotes. Good luck and have fun!
