The explanations of exibits are not understandable to anyone but scientists. They are almoust unreadable. The movie in the begining is to brutal and explicit for kids. The idea of walking through earths past is good but very poorly executed. All in all I don't know anything more about neanderthals after the visit than I did before. The kids (11 and 9) were bored because thay could't understand anything. Definetly not a museum for kids or adults. Maybe it is ok for paleontologists. Would not recommend.

The unique Neanderthal Museum in Krapina was opened in 2010 and is located near one of Europe’s most important paleontological sites. The museum features exhibitions about the Neanderthals and about the history of the Earth, from its origins to modern times. The amazing multimedia contents takes the visitors back to the age of the Neanderthals where they become part of evolution. Going back 130,000 years in history and observe the virtual reality of our ancestors is breath-taking and amazing...

The exhibition area of the museum is located between two hills, Hušnjakovo and Josipovac, spreading over 1,200 square metres and splitting into two levels. The Neanderthals lived in so-called semi-caves, holes created by water in vertical bare rocks, mostly without vegetation, and protected from three sides. There was only one opening on the front side from where they could watch out for dangerous. The museum building is similarly designed, almost invisible from the outside, resembling a concrete semi-cave covered in sand. The museum is one of the most important exhibitions in Europe and should be on anyone’s bucket list.

The Zagreb History museum has an excellent exhibit on their Neanderthal finds. So we drove 26km east from Veliki Tabor castle to visit the actual site discovered in 1899. Although it was Monday and the museum itself was closed, there is a lot to see including part of the cave trail, all the exterior signboards showing the teeth and bones of both men and women from ages 2 to 40. Also many of the dioramas of the probably site.
Biggest Neanderthal find at the time.
Pretty village of Krapina.

Very well executed exhibition by various technologies. Adults and children can also find interesting content. The diversity of many performance technologies gives an opportunity to gradually discover knowledge about human development. Highly professional videos present the periods of Universe. Every exhibit is briefly commented on. The texts are in Croatian, English and German. For a school trip it is better to take a guide.
