This place was discovered by Rev. Walter Weston and admired by many Japanese. You have to use public transport to visit this area.Minimum stay is one night and to explore the whole areas need 3-4 nights. You can rent some utensils at Konashidaira camp site and stay in small bungalows or in your tent.

I have went to the Japan Alps and I would say this is one of the most beautiful parts. There are several paths to choose from for your hikes (ranging from 2~4 hours for the basic ones), and its mostly just flat forest or riverside hikes so its good and easy for anyone. There are a few onsen hotels there,... More

Kamikochi can get quite crowded on the weekends, so I suggest starting your hike early in the morning. Kamikochi is beautiful and it is a very relaxing hike - easy for people of all fitness levels. It's pretty accessible too, from either Takayama or Matsumoto. I took the route from Takayama, which only consisted of one bus change at Hirayu... More

I traveled to Kamikochi as a day trip from Tokyo. I would recommend staying the night because it's a long trip. There are great hikes, not technically challenging so beginners can definitely enjoy the hike. Don't miss it!

A perfect place for hiking, trekking or just walking. We walked 20km along the river one day and the landscape was gorgeous! We regretted that we only stayed 2nights, which is way too short.

One of the best places to go for leaf-peeping is Kamikochi, part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park in the Japan Alps. Part of the beauty in this park, aside from the leaves, is the fact that no cars are allowed to drive within the park’s borders. It makes access a bit tricky, but the payoff is worth it. Kamikochi... I just got back from a 4 day hike of this place and wish I could have stayed longer! Most 'serious' hikers do the trek up the valley to Mount Yari, but there are a number of easy walks surrounding Kamikochi itself that required minimal effort- and are stunning. The hotels surrounding Kamikochi are pretty nice and some even have... More

We took the train and bus from Matsumoto and arrived by mid-morning on a weekday in late June. There were very few visitors at the time. I was a little worried because it was rainy season, but the weather was fine, just a little drizzle. It was cooler there than in the cities, and the hike was a nice break.... More

Would someone recommend a guide or company who can arrange a 4-6 days trekking for 2 persons in this region? Starting from 2016 October 7th-10th. Thanks in advance!
