A day between the Ampezzo Dolomites and Cortina

1 review
The Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offer numerous possibilities for routes and itineraries, immersed in one of the most evocative panoramas in the world. The tour of the Dolomites includes the most famous cities and lakes in the spectacular Dolomites: Pieve di Cadore, Tre Cime, Cortina, Lago di Misurina, Lago Auronzo. Enjoy an unforgettable day tour to discover the most beautiful mountains in Europe, the Italian Dolomites.

Note: From November 15th until the reopening of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (about the third week of May), with this tour you will visit the Lake Braies and San Candido, located on the border with Austria, instead of Lake Misurina and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
From 23 November to 6 January, you can also visit the Christmas markets of San Candido.

It's located at 2000 m. elevation, in the same area of the world famous Lago di Braies. You can reach it by car, although traffic and parking are limited in high season and the road that climbs to Prato Piazza is quite narrow. Alternatively you can reach it by public bus. Once you're there there's no car traffic and you find yourself immersed in the nature: fields with grazing cows, forests, peaks. The Croda Rossa mountain dominates the view on one side. With a 5 km trail you can hike to the summit of monte Specie and have an amazing panoramic view of the Dolomites, including the world famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo. There are "rifugi", "malghe" and one hotel where you can have food and accommodation. Highly recommended for detaching from the stress of our modern life.

A perfect winter day: bright sun vivid blue sky startling white snow. This was our first experience of hiking in the Dolomites and what an introduction. It was unforgettable.

Easy access with the local bus lines. Use it instead of the car! The plains offer spectacular flower fields with loads of orchids and alpine flora. Many alpine bird species are to be heard and the views with Croda Rossa in the fond is breathtaking! Do the walk to Strudelkopf! It is not so demanding! From there, you have view over the Tre Cime and the Dolomites. Nice restaurants serves all kind of dishes, from soups to more fancy food.

We get to the point to just contemplate the view, we got there and saw the mountains at the end and start to walk a little, the imagine what could be behind the hill and start the 45 minutes walk to the 2nd shelter/restaurant, we ate the the best food of our 4 days in the region and return back. Really fast because we had a plane to catch in Treviso :). One of the must do, we took plenty of photos on the way of the beautiful meadows.
