What can I say-CDV delivered once again. We were invited into locals homes many to cook local dishes and dine under the stars... we explored the Duoro river, tasted Port, wandered the streets of Porto, went off-roading and some of us even managed to ride an electric bike. The people are unlike any I've met before-the generosity of the locals, the talent and kindness of our local hosts. So much joy and laughter... it was like traveling with life long friends.

Visiting Portugal has been on our bucket list for years but we were never confident enough to go on our own. When Culture Discovery announced their entree into a new country (ie: not Italy) we were in! From the initial meet and greet at the Porto airport to the tearful farewells a week later the tour unfolded as if they had done it a million times. Cooking traditional dishes with Mina, drinking wonderful wine in the Douro Valley, and exploring a huge indoor market to shop for dinner ingredients all kept us excited to meet this new culture. Fortunately, English is widely spoken in Portugal, so there was virtually no language barrier. Future plans may extend their range to visiting Lisbon so we’re keeping an eye on Culture Discovery’s vacation calendar.

Seven friends celebrated significant birthdays and surviving cancer in the Cooking on the Amalfi Coast with Culture Discoveries. We all agreed ... "the BEST trip EVER". The itinerary and the people who take care of you are genuine to the area and people of Italy. On our way to Capri, we swam in the unbelievably blue Mediterranean; in Ravello, we walked through an ancient Villa and looked down the mountain at our own Villa home (a former nunnery). We learned how to make homemade pasta, mozzarella, wonderful zucchini rolls (I hate zucchini), wood-fired pizza, and pasta. The food at the Villa and at the local restaurants we visited was AMAZING! Our hosts became family (really - watch out for Filomena - she's a serious card shark, and her son, Vincenzo, is a fabulous musician and photographer. Our guide, Sophie, made sure that we were all happy and healthy (a few of us had back issues!). For instance, on the day we were to go to Capri, the seas were too rough, so she and Claudia (another family member) were on multiple phones rearranging our schedule. That day and the substitute Capri day were flawless. The only issue with this experience is the 165 stairs it takes to get up and down from the Villa. It is a serious climb, so keep that in mind. You have to do it everyday - sometimes twice a day. For us, it was worth it! All seven of us would do another trip through Culture Discovery again!

From our fabulous host llaria, to the cooking classes, food, wine and countryside, the CDV tour was outstanding! As a solo traveler, I was part of the "family" as soon as I joined the group, and what a great group of people we had. My expectations were met and exceeded by CDV. What a fun, fulfilling week! Can't wait to travel with CDV again, hopefully in the near future. Thank you CDV.
