A great insight into the history of the castle, from being built, right through to its current day functions, with a glimpse into some key political moments. A much more friendly and casual affair than these sorts of things usually are, you can walk right through the rooms, take a seat around the tables and plenty of photo opportunities. The... More

Rather confusing to buy tickets - go to the tourist office in the court house - then go over to the castle. I think this is changing in the future as new visitor centre planned Tours on the hour Reasonable price - especially when compared to Buckingham Palace, Windsor etc! Excellent tour guide - really enthusiastic and knowledgable Very interesting... More

Love going here with friends or family for a stroll round the lake and looking at the castle. It's always kept clean and dogs are allowed.

Paid the gardens a visit at the weekend on our way to Belfast. Castle tours have to be booked in advance, but we weren’t in a position to do so due to our itinerary, so we had to make do with visiting the gardens only. The grounds of the castle are huge, and unfortunately our visit to the gardens was... More

Went to Hillsborough Castle when we had friends staying with us from Scotland. We arrived in time for our tour and the guide was very good lots of information and spoke clearly and loud enough for everyone to hear without shouting. The palace is lovely and very interesting, the gardens are lovely and very pleasant to walk round. Definately well... More

We had a pleasant tour around the Castle today. Garreth the guide was very informative and had lots of anecdotes to share with us. The Castle is small in comparison to others I have visited but it has a comfortable, relaxed feel about it. You can just imagine the Royal Family 'chilling' in the homely atmosphere. You can sit on... More

This royal palace worth a visit. It is small but very nice not just the gardens but also the inside. The staff that shows the palace is very nice and friendly. Due being still used by the royal family, it is very well maintained.

This costs £7. I've been in this building several times but I think the tour is pretty new since the castle is now under the umbrella of the Royal Palaces. Big plans for the future with large car park etc in pipeline. The tour was very interesting....my goodness there has been a castle on this site from the 17th century.... More

There is something special about sitting on a sofa recently vacated by the Queen of England! At Hillsborough Castle we were able to see ground floor rooms in detail and given interesting information about the furnishings, art and history of what we saw. The fact that the Queen and Prince Philip had been in residence 24 hours before, added an... More

We had heard that Hillsborough Castle was open to the public and decided to go for a day trip. Hillsborough is a lovely little town with some nice individual shops and a few great pubs. We were shown around by our guide Keiran who was just lovely and very enthusiastic about the castle. His colleague Garth was also excellent. We... More
