We took a private boat from San Carlos to Mancarron and stopped at Zapote on the way. I believe that you can also get a public boat to do the trip but you would need to check in San Carlos. The island isn't too big. The side closest to San Carlos has so many different nesting birds: roseate spoon bills wood storks Anhinga herrons egrets and more We were able to see so much but the waves were rough and the weather not so great so getting pictures on that side of the island was difficult. The other side of the island was much calmer and there were a number of individual birds but the nesting area is on the rough side of the island. It is well worth the trip if you are a birder!!
