We’ve seen Turrell’s works in Naoshima and SF, so we thought we came to Salta prepared. However, nothing can prepare you to the beauty of Turrell’s world of light where night doesn’t fall but rises. One also has to admire the vision and persuasion of Donald Hess who managed to lure Turrell half of the world to Colome.

Dear Dimitri,
Thanks for taking the time to comment about our Museum. Just as you said, Donald Hess admiration for James Turrell´s art, and his love for this vineyards, near to the sky, created the vision of this unique Museum, where the silence and lack of artificial lights prepare us to fully embrace James Turrell´s art.
We are happy to know you enjoyed our experience and look forward to seeing you again.
Saludos!

Incredible and an unexpected Museum. It is some kind of secret kept in order to surprise you upon arrival. Allow you to be taken but this light magician, in a place wher you never expect to have this kind of experience.

I agree with the review "Incredible art at an excellent winery”.
This Museum in the middle of nowhere is fantastic, remember too book a tour 4-5 days before you arrive, they only have 3-4 tours per day (with 10 people per tour) and you can only enter the museum on a booked tour.

For those that are fans of James Turrell's work, the pilgrimage aspect of viewing his work is not new but for everyone else who just likes to see contemporary art, the question to ask is whether driving for hours over a dirt track road, most of which is in 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear worth it? ABSOLUTELY.
We bounced seemingly forever over the dusty, arid and dramatic terrain. Driving past tiny adobe dwellings. Finally arriving at a large commercial vineyard with a museum dedicated only to James Turrell's work. The contrast is startling. Suddenly you leap forwards in time. The vineyard is impressive and there is an extremely good restaurant too. The museum has 9 large installations as well as large prints and drawings of other works including plans of the Roden Crater in Arizona which is Mr Turrell's life long and immensely ambitious work. The installations are of exceptional quality and span the arc of the artists work from the mid 1960's till the museum was built. The works completely change ones perception of light which, is the medium of his work. They are really breath taking. He is one of the truly great living contemporary artists. The work is almost spiritual. You absorb it as a sensory experience.
A couple of notes of advice for those planning to go. PLAN YOUR TRIP CAREFULLY. It is a major commitment to get here. You MUST book in advance with the museum, there are specific times when you can go into see the works, (only in small groups), they aren't keen on children under the age of 12 as the works are delicate. In a country where things are very relaxed this is a pretty rigidly run operation. Go on the website of the museum and read it carefully. If you don't they may well not let you in and you won't get fed! Trust me you want to get fed as the food and wine are delicious and you will be starving!
Overall this is a wonderful experience, you won't regret it. GO!

This wine farm was far to reach, but a real find! We drove what felt like days, but it was really worth the effort and dirt roads! The wines were fantastic, the food and presentation by Pedro exceptional! Felt quite amazing to visit one of the highest wine farms in the world!

We stayed at the lovely Estancia Colomé hotel and had the opportunity for the private wine tasting and museum visit with five other hotel guests. The wine tasting prior to the museum visit added an element of openness to the experience for me. I knew nothing about James Turrell so I did not know what to expect. He is an American artist who specializes in Light and Space. I have never experienced anything like this museum. We were pleasantly surprised.

I love discovering new wines and, even more, I love the artwork of James Turrell -- one of my favorites, if not my favorite, contemporary artists. This place is one of my best finds in Argentina - the Colomé vineyards are some of Salta's oldest and their wines are fantastic, the dry rocky setting is gorgeous, the small close-by town of Molinos is historic and charming, but the art museum is the true gem here - Turrell's works inspired in light, skies, and manipulating visual perceptions have found a beautiful home here. The museum's gift shop and café are equally great. It's definitely off the beaten path, and admittedly not easy to get to (only car), but I promise that it's a place not easily forgotten, especially if you appreciate Turrell's color-saturated spatial illusions.

If in Colomé, wait the hours to the next guided visit. It is stunning. James Turrell is a great artist who creates illusions that are second to none. Light unseen before!

Hola? Se debe reservar con anticipación para ir??
Written April 3, 2019
Hola, sí es conveniente reservar con tiempo, entran muy pocas personas en cada visita. También te mandan el mapa de la ruta para llegar, y te esperan. Solo te digo que tanto el camino, como Colomé y el museo son una experiencia única. Háganlo. Saludos.

If I understand you - you've got only a little time? This is a very remote location but well worth the time to get to the winery and the museum. There is nothing like it. The two towns in the area, Cachi and Cafayete are long drives up a two lane mountain road. - maybe 3 hours each? there is a dirt road that connects them that is about another four hour drive.
