Choose a good day to get the best out of this trip. It was 28 at the start and 14 at the top and slightly hazy for stunning mountain photos, however it’s a must do as the little “Salamander” cog railway climbs steadily up to...More

I first took the train up Schneeberg in June1973, of course then there was only the old steam engine. It was not that busy as I recall. In September 2017 we returned and took the Salamander train, much quicker but not the same experience. We...More

Great family day out from Vienna. Views were amazing and the trip on the train, although quite expensive, was well worth it. Wrap up warm as even in Aug it was very cold at the top. Luckily the cafe/restaurant provided some great food and drink.

Schneeberg is nice place for a picnic and easy for families. Train trip is nice also but tickets little bit too expensive in my opinion. If you want to go higher palaces they are not far away. This is a nice touch of Alps.

Not to be too nostalgic, but this famous train became less dramatic (though faster) when it was electified; you can still go up in the steam train, which is worth it, if you can organize. There's a bit of a pushing and shoving sometimes on...More

Well worth it for the views on top. A leisurely walk to the Damböchhaus, or a more strenuous one to the Fischerhütte and Klosterwappen. The station can print out your ticket if you've booked it online and not been able to print a hard copy.
