Eleutherna is another archaeological excavation that was, until recently, accessible, in parts, to the public. At the time of our visit, it was blocked off and we managed to get a sense of what had been found there by visiting the Museum of Ancient Eleutherna....More

Visited museum and was amazed at the items included from the nearby archaeological site and other locations. The site was closed when we visited but will certainly return when open, but the museum is worthy of a visit on its own merit.

The museum at Eleuthernia houses the finds from the digs over this large site and puts them in the context of Homer's tales Iliad and Odyssey. These are narrated through the objects, the retelling of one of the stories in film, reenactment, and a documentary....More

Impressive in the sense of how a small museum can be so complete!! You leave with the feeling of truly having experienced details, such as: the excavation of and the recognition of the "sisters" of Auxerre by Mr Nikos Stampolidis during the excavations nearby the...More

Eleftherna is located close to Rimondi. It was one of the towns that were on the side of Macedonia against Knossos during the first Cretan war.

This was not on our planned itinerary but given its close proximity to Arkadi Monastery we decided to visit. We visited the Eleftherna museum which was well worth the stop. The exhibits and the informative videos made for an interesting visit. We didn't walk down...More

We walked to the Site and 2 km via European pathway E4. This cannot be recommended as landowners have gone out of the way to obstruct the path. Following the signage resulted in a very parlous assault ciurse near to th site., only to find...More

We had been watching the excavations for many years - but from beyond the fences. Therefore it was with some excitement that we entered the new museum and visited the nearby cemetery at Othi Petra. Yes. The museum is impressive but - and it’s a...More

Found it by accident, and glad we did. From the outside, not impressed but once we walked through the doors we were amazed. An impressive display of artefacts from Greek society with excellent narrative and audiovisual to support it. 3000 BC onwards. Don't miss it.
