We arrived in Panama mid afternoon, rented a car and drove to Gamboa. The next morning, our guide, Saul, took us on a first rate bird walk on the Pipeline Road. My wife and I are casual birders, but can highly recommend Saul as a very knowledgeable naturalist and guide. In addition to showing us 46 different species (we heard 17 others), Saul explained to us various ecological relationships of birds and other inhabitants of the jungle. Saul made good use of the song recordings available on Merlin. Best of all, Saul is a great guy and it was really fun to spend the morning with him.

Saul (the first English person I have met by that name) guided us for a fantastic half day on the Pipeline Road. We were two couples ranging form super-keen birder to keen to very interested to interested: quite a mix for a guide to manage. Saul excelled at keeping all four of us totally immersed for the full six hours (or more). We loved this track walk and it was a highlight of our Panama & Costa Rica visit. My thousandth bird seen was the Pheasant Cuckoo, for which there was zero chance of me finding without Saul - he is an expert birder, and found us another fifty odd 'lifers', but also a botanist and much more, fully conversant with the whole range of forest life. We learnt so much - and I used to teach rain-forests! Saul was delightful company, I wish he had been with us the whole trip.

My wife and I recently visited Gamboa, Panama. During our stay we arranged a Panama Pipeline Bird Tour. Our guide Saul, met us at approx. 6 am at our resort and drove us to Pipeline Road. During our hike it was quite evident how passionate and experienced Saul was. He was constantly picking up bird calls. He would tell us what it was and show us what it looked like in his bird book. He also was able to mimic many calls, which often garnered a response from a bird in the jungle. On many occasions he would find the bird in the canopy or undergrowth for us to see it. Saul's enthusiasm and excitement when finding a bird was infectious. I am a hobby photographer that enjoys photographing birds. Saul recognized that and did what he could to help me find and photograph a bird. Both my wife and I are not experienced birders and Saul was very patient with us, as we, no doubt, were likely a little noisier that what he is used to. We thoroughly enjoyed Sauls company and the hike through Pineline Road. We would absolutely recommend Saul as a guide. We hope he is available when we return to Panama.

I had a great tour with Saul birding around the discovery centre and Pipeline road! Saul is super knowledgeable with visual and audio ID and I learnt so much. He is also just great company and a genuinely lovely person. As a solo traveller I never thought I would be able to afford a 1:1 birding tour but it was worth every penny! We seen/ heard 77 species in total, plus a few monkeys, sloth etc thrown in. Would 100% recommend to any bird enthusiast visiting Panama!

From 6 am to 12, we had a bird watching excursion, with Saül, our guide, scientist and biologist. Of course we saw a lot of different birds, some very rare, with habits unknown, but as well, animals as shy as the aunt eater specific to Central America, the howler monkeys and the Capucins, the basilicus, ... Saül was fantastic, he could hear noise or bird songs, sometimes I did'not hear. Even if he did'nt see the birds, he could recognize the different perrots,by their noise. He explained us a lot of things about plants, trees. This tour in Gamboa, with Saül will remain, one of our best souvenir in Panama.
