Such a lovely falls, there are two ways you can get to them either by 135 stairs or the 1 km Shady Creek Walk. It’s is best to do both and first go down the stairs and come back through the other path. We arrived here early at 7.30am and people started to come in during this time so it gets very busy. It’s a smaller swimming area with the stunning view of the two large falls and so many fish. There was a decent car park to park the caravan and toilet facilities.

All those stairs are worth it! Florence Falls is absolutely stunning from the viewing platform up top, from the waters edge and gazing up at the rock walls while floating around below. The falls are very popular as i believe it is a designate swimming area - it would be nice to know when the quieter times to visit are, but i doubt that there are any with how nice they are. Be mindful that once you are at the bottom there are lots of rocks to manouvre across, and in the water to be careful of. Instead of taking the stairs back up to the carpark, there is a scenic route back that we didn’t take but we will next time.

We decided to visit Florence Falls on our way back from Katherine to Darwin. I little out of the way but well worth the visit. Spectacular views and the 139 steps down (and back up) worth the trip for a swim in a crystal clear water hole.
A little busy but easy to see why.

We should have known that a Public Holiday weekend would be a bad time to visit. Had real trouble parking (annoying that the huge coach park bays were closed off), had to weave our way through groups picnicking on the path. One bloke was changing his kid’s nappy, a pair of underpants was drying on a rock and the pool itself was heaving. We took a quick look at the falls themselves and high tailed outta there! We did enjoy the peaceful Creek Walk back to the car. May come back mid week some time. If you like getting amongst it you will enjoy.

This is one of of the most stunning spots in Litchfield. Definitely pack your swimmers as it's a great waterhole too. It would be helpful to time your visit at either the start or end of the day just to avoid crowds. I think that noodles or similar floatable devices could be useful for less confident swimmers. Take the 139 steps on the way down and if you feel like a gentler walk back to the car take the scenic route.

The reason to visit the park. Absolutely beautiful and the falls were at the best being a very wet Wet season. There is a fair current but just find a rock to lean on if you are a weak swimmer like me. Would have stayed longer if I were not on bus tour. Highly recommend the creek walk back the natural beauty has to be seen to be believed. A must do.

Easy sealed road access to the parking area, the falls are accessed by good walking tracks: a 700m steep track from the main parking area or an easier 1300m track from the 4WD access camping area.
The falls plunge into a large after hole that is excellent for swimming: only problem is the small access platform which would be very crowded at bust times. Lovely spot.

A beautiful place but like most swimming spots in Litchfield, it was crowded. As others suggested, we walked down the steps and returned via the walk along the creek which was worthwhile. We were there by 9am and there were lots of people already, plenty of room to swim though. A deep rock hole, lots of people using pool noodles to float around.

From the parking area there it is a short walk to the falls eventually via Shady Creek walk. When you arrive at the lake you will see the beautiful lake and waterfall. It is possible to swim in the lake. Be careful because the area is very rocky. The Shady Creek walk is a very nice walk in the shady forest where you will see a lot of different nature.
Very recommendable.

Lots of parking. A reasonably easy walk to the start of the stairs. A lookout is on the way so you can see how far you have to go and how far down you need to go. 135 metal stairs down. Once down it is reasonably easy walking to the water. There is a platform and stairs into the water for easy access. Its a bit difficult to see both the falls from the platform so you need to go around a bit further to get both in. Water is very cold but you can swim to the base of the falls. You can stand up in some sections closer to the platform but it gets deeper the closer you get to the falls. On the way back you can choose to climb back up the 135 stairs (400m) or do as we did and walk out a different way. This included a 1.6km track which took you through a variety of vegetation. It started with tropical, shaded vegetation, crossing bridges over little streams along the way to open wooded areas. It was climbing uphill but gradual and not too difficult. I am glad we came out this way. There are toilets at the parking area.
