Short easy walk from the carpark to the base of the falls. A much larger swimming area than other falls previously visited. Closed for swimming though when we were there due to a recent crocodile capture. Water is deep and has easy access to water by metal steps and hand rails. Seeing we couldn't swim we took on the walk instead. It is a quite steep walk and there is a viewing deck about a third of the way up. Here you have the choice of turning around and going back down or continuing on for the remainder of the walk. We passed many people on our way up that were returning this way but we decided to continue. The rest of the walk was just as challenging and steep on rocky paths and stairs. Once at the top of the falls though you get amazing views but can't see the falls as you are at the top of the falls. The climb down was also steep and challenging but if you take your time it can be done, I am 50 and not fit but took my time and got there. There is a little running water fall on the way down where you can stop and have a drink or get a refreshing splash on your face. Lots of tourist buses stop but they wouldn't have the time to do the walk so we were the only ones who were on the track past the viewing platform. There is a cafe that sells hot food, sandwiches, drink etc but they also cater for the tourist buses so if you arrive at the same time there is quite a wait. Check the opening hours of the cafe and if the falls are open for swimming. Plenty of parking and toilets nearby.

This is a a stunning setting - a dramatic waterfall with the backdrop of red rock.
Unfortunately the swimming was closed when we there as they had detected a saltwater crocodile and hadn't yet been able to relocate it. But we were able to spend a long time just peering at the remarkable scene both from the elevated viewing platform and then at the base of the waterfall.

Very attractive destination within Litchfield National Park. From the lookout, it just feels like you are in front of a huge mesmerizing mural. Having lived in Darwin for more than three years, I have been here more than 20 times but always happy to re-visit. Takes about 2 hours drive from Darwin and you won't need a 4wd at all. There are free wifi, BBQ areas, toilets and small cafe for refreshments. Roads can be flooded and heavy rains can blind your windscreen completely during wet season, especially between December and Feb, but these are the months when the waterfall reaches its best. You will be amazed by the breeze carrying water from the waterfall hitting you while watching. And in dry seasons, when permitted and crocs are controlled, you may choose to swim if you are a good swimmer. Never seen life-savers around though. You may also choose to take a short easy loop walk (about 45 minutes) around the Wangi falls.

We arrived at lunchtime on a Friday (interstate school hols) and there were lots and lots of people! It is a huge area of water so plenty of space for a swim once you got in. Most of the shaded grass area near the edge was pretty full. There is a cafe which looks set up to deal with coaches of people and had sandwiches, some hot food and cold drinks, tired looking and not very appealing though.
Least favourite of the places we visited in Litchfield.

A large, beautiful waterhole that you can swim in once it has been declared croc safe for the season with the falls dropping into it at the upstream end. Just lovely.

There is a 2km circuit walk that takes up and around the top of the falls, where the stream flowing to them has a number of pretty rock holes and swimming/dipping spots to enjoy. A pleasant walk, a few steps to get up the top, interesting flora and both expansive views across the park and closer views of the waterway and falls.

Easy access on sealed roads means this spot is generally fairly busy.

Depending on when you visit, the Wangi Falls are different during the dry and wet seasons. In the dry season, the falls are not as dynamic as it is in the wet seasons. Swimming in the plunge pool was not allowed when we visited because of the possibility of an increased risk of crocodiles. Regardless, the falls provide a beautiful photo opportunity. The rock face area around the falls and other nearby areas are sacred places for the Aboriginals who believed spirits in the form of humans, animals and plants created the features of the landscape here. History notes these falls were a special place for indigenous women to bathe and swim. It is believed men who looked at the women were lured into the waters and to their death. Be respectful.

We visited during wet season so could not swim but the scenery was amazing. I am unsure if I would swim even if it was possible. I could not be able to measure how deep the water was and the covered area was huge.

The waterfall was cooling the surrounded area and felt like rainforest. You can walk to the top of the waterfall by walking track but it was hot/humid day with kids so half way through we came down. It is not too difficult to walk only mild.

The area was well maintained. They have bbq area, camping and toilet facilities and they even have a cafe although it was closed when we visited. Surely one of the best place to visit in Litchfield National park.

The falls were still closed for swimming but we are so glad that we could get here to see the stunning view! We did the 1.6 km circuit walk which was one of our favourites as it’s such a tropic rainforest setting, it is fairly easy with some stairs. We saw no crocodiles but saw a croc trap. There is free wifi here, heaps of parking for cars and caravans and it’s an easy bitumen drive in.

Wangi Falls is absolutely beautiful. We had an amazing time spent here. Even though the water at the Falls was closed as there had been a storm the day before and also, it is the wet season over summer this time of year. You could still walk around the area, but couldn’t do any bush walks that afternoon. Still the area is wonderful.

Another lovely NT waterfall/rock pool with very easy access. Which is probably why there were so many people. There were a lot of noisy young men colonising the waterfall which was slightly irritating but still a lovely place for a swim.
