Kato Zakros is wonderful, small, not very crowded place, with a nice beach and very good small restaurants. Impressive archeological place: for a small entry fee it is possible to visit the ruins of the large ancient Minoan palace, with several good explanatory tables with...More

It was the forth minoan palace we had visited in four days, but I wanted to go anyway. The road was long but the bay was awesome.

You need to go to Kato Zakros if you are in Eastern Crete. The spectacular journey to get there is wonderful and then you come upon this hidden gem. Small tavernas, blue sea, not many people (and we were there in July), some lovely walks...More

Here one can see how life was organized durig the high peak of Minean culture. Of course this was the life of nobility and wealthy, but still one can learn the conditionss people lived in.

Like Gournia, this site is is partly built on a hillside allowing one to view the plan of the palace complex, which lies below the town. The survival is very good, but as so often, signage is very poor. Reconstructed works are easier to discern...More

A palace that need not take you more than an hour to walk round - unless you get enthralled and want to soak in the atmosphere. Plenty of web sites to tell you about it first, but you do get a leaflet with your 6Euro...More

Came here on an overcast day in May. The roads going are very slow, winding, and narrow in places. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get there. With that in mind, it's not worth the journey to see just that. The palace...More

It took ages to get here. There was a sign at the office advising toilets were not available & the man at the office was argumentative. The best thing about Zakros palace is it's compact size, which makes it easier to imagine how things were...More
