- Eline B6 contributionsCooking class to never forget <3We booked this experience in the Vamos Village Tourist Office. They recommended it to us and told us it was an absolute must-do to experience Cretan Cuisine! And they were so right! Koula greeted us with a warm welcome. She started talking about some important and native herbs of Crete. She told us how we can use them and what kind of benefits they have. We started with an herbal tea, that she made with some of the herbs, which she told us about before. She also prepared a delicious little snack. After we had to take an active part in the cooking, everyone did their part. Together with the group, we prepared several delicious dishes. We used eggplants, although my husband and I normally avoid eggplants, and we loved the way we prepared them in the cooking class. Mrs. Koula has a great passion for cooking and Cretan cuisine, and you can taste it in the recipes. She has her own cooking book, we bought it afterward and already cooked some recipes from it. She gives you the recipes from the cooking class to take home with you, and we also got a cute little apron. After the cooking, we all sat down and enjoyed the dishes we prepared with some local wine and had some lovely conversations with miss Koula and the other tourists. All in all, we can recommend this activity if you would like to experience some real Cretan culture and cuisine. You will not regret it.Written July 19, 2022
- Helli11 contributionsA fabulous afternoon at the cookery school with Mrs CoulaWe had a fabulous afternoon at the cookery school with Mrs Coula last week. The school is in a converted olive oil factory which is mostly open air so felt perfectly safe and was very atmospheric. The original olive press in the reception area adds even more character. On arrival we received a comprehensive briefing from Mrs Coula whose English is perfect having lived for many years in Canada. We each received printed recipes with ample space to make notes against each of the dishes. Much fun was had by all in the chopping, slicing and cooking. The food was absolutely delicious with as much wine and raki as we wanted. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience which we would highly recommend to anyone who is in the beautiful Vamos area.Written August 16, 2021
- Dr. Jen D.Carnegie, Pennsylvania11 contributionsLearn to cook like a local in one evening.Had a great experience learning the ingredients, skills, and traditions that are the basis for a long life on Crete. The chef made you feel like you were cooking with her not just watching. But if you just wanted to watch that was ok to. Lots of variety of foods and you should definitely skip breakfast and lunch.Traveled as a coupleWritten September 27, 2021

The place, the atmosphere, the amazing teacher, it was a really fun experience.
The food was tasty, of course you can get a good restaurant food instead but the experience was much more than just dining in another restaurant.
The teacher is such an amazing, interesting, smart person.
Talk to her privately and you will see.

What a fun experience in a beautiful environment! My family of five thoroughly enjoyed our cooking lesson in Vamos Village. Ms.Koula was an excellent teacher and very informative about Cretan cuisine. She even accommodated one family member who was a vegetarian. We loved the hands on cooking, and of course enjoying the meal at the end! This was definitely a unique experience and one of the highlights of our Crete vacation.

What an amazing experience. We booked this as a multi-generational family group. Everyone from the 5 year old upwards had a brilliant time. Mrs Koula was the perfect tutor - funny, smart and knowledgeable. The setting is totally beautiful and the food she taught us to make was extremely delicious. Our best meal of the holiday! I would thoroughly recommend this activity.

I enjoyed every minute of this cooking lesson. The setting is beautiful and the whole group joined in, to make traditional Cretan food, with fantastic ingredients.
I am a single traveller, the group was very welcoming and by the time we sat down to eat and drink together, it felt as thought I was amongst friends. I could not recommend this experience more highly!

When we arrived at Koula’s home we were greeted with a hot cup of mountain tea (herbs picked by Koula herself, of course) and a traditional sweet. We knew we were in for a wonderful few hours from the very first sip! Every dish we made was healthy, easy to follow, and so delicious. Koula is a fabulous person with a lot of traveling under her belt. Talking to her about her life, while we savored the best Cretan cuisine of our trip, was a really special experience. We would not hesitate to recommend this class!

We did the cooking class and we had other expectations. You don’t create a dish from start to finish, but instead help in the making by doing fairly simple tasks: cutting onions, grate tomatoes, roll pastry… on one table for about 10 people. For amateurs cooks It’s a nice experience, but not for people who already have a good grip in the kitchen. Besides There were a lot of mosquitoes there so I would advice putting repellent on your skin. The wine was cheap . We found it a very very expensive outing for what you get.

This was a wonderfully joyful occasion! Chef Koula was so knowledgable about the ingredients and I loved hearing about the different herbs and their medicinal properties. An outstanding teacher, Koula explained things so clearly, and I feel confident enough to try to recreate the feast back at home. The food was delicious; by far the best food we have eaten in Crete. My husband, my 17-year old son and his 18-year old friend, who are fairly inexperienced cooks, also really enjoyed the whole experience. Well worth the money for everyone, experienced cook or otherwise.

This was one of the best things we did on our trip. We cooked some delicious traditional cretan food. The recipes look quite simple and is definitely something we will be cooking at home!
The teacher was great and took time to answer our questions as well as explain the cretan diet and traditional herbs used in cooking.
The lesson ran from 3pm till around 6:30pm so we still had time to visit the beach in the morning.
Couldn't recommend enough, you won't be disappointed!

After saying no to $150 cooking lessons in Mykonos, this one is Crete was by far a far more authentic and traditional cooking experience than we imagained and we loved it.
Koula is a wonderfully kind person who has quite the history around the world. All of the food prepared is traditional Createn food with her spin on it. The classes are designed around everyone participating in the preperation, however you will not be making each dish individually. Rather it is a group preperation. You will still go home with the instructions of each dish to practice and cook at home.
There is no shortage of food and wine to be consumed, so make sure you don't have a large lunch or breakfast before you attend.

One of the best and tasteful meals we’ve ever eaten! We would definitely recommend this to anyone.
A great cooking class in a lovely setting of an old olive press. Everyone enjoyed it and our cook helped us create tasty, traditional, local Cretan dishes which we will repeat at home. Plenty of wine and raki and very a table with guests from across the world. A unique experience for everyone including children!

Hello! We would love to know what time of the day the cooking classes begin.....and also what is the cost? Do we have to reserve ahead of time or can we just drop in?

I believe generally the cooking classes start at 2:00, they are 4 hours long. We wanted to go over lunch time so we actually were able to setup a lesson at 10:00. I would definitely book in advance especially if you are part of a large group.
Hope that helps!
