I have lived close by for almost a year, and just now visited for the first time! I enjoyed the fall colors, seeing the Bulgarian pottery for sale, and the monastery itself. It was really cool to see all the paintings inside of the monastery.

The thing I liked the most about this monastery was the fact, that it is still used by locals to come and pray to God. As a matter of fact, I felt like there are 5-10 tourists in the whole crowd of 200 people which...More

We visited the Monastry on a Friday at about 12pm. We parked the car in the car park at the bottom of the stalls street. We walked up to the Monastry and bought a few merchandise and souvenirs along the way. The vendors were lovely...More

I’ve been 3-4 times now, both in summer and winter and I love this spot. The routine is simple: lunch at the waterfall restaurant (my favorite restaurant experience here in Bulgaria, but not open in winter) then the short walk up to the monastery for...More

We're really glad we came to this monastery just a few kilometers south of Assen's Fort. We parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up, but you could drive all the way to the top and park for free. Regardless, different parts were...More

Could I do an independent day trip to Plovdiv & Bachkovo Monastery? Or is it more practical to book a tour? If so any recommendations?

Bachkovo Monastery from Plovdiv (2 Replies)
Hi. Our family (3 boys) will soon be arriving in Plovdiv for 3 days. We shall be staying in a house rather than a hotel, therefore I would love some advice on how to best travel to Bachkovo Monastery for a day ( or even if this is a good way to spend our time in Plovdiv). Since we won't have hotel staff to ask, or a car, any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks!
