Vakantiepark Hengelhoef
Hengelhoef Estate not only accommodates a holiday park, but also the welcoming visitors' centre of nature association Limburgs Landschap vzw. In and around this typical Kempen half-timbered house, you will experience life as it was on the heath. You can have a quiet drink or take part in one of the fun activities that are organised on a regular basis. A visit to the beekeeping centre, sheep pen or

The WC and showers are dirty and unhygienic at all times.
There is no soap so you can't wash your hands after a WC visit.
Wash intervals on toilets should be tripled as these are very unhygienic.
There should be calm after 23:00, but this is not observed by guards.
When visitors pick up the Karoke machine at 00.30 and keep it going and guards do not intervene.
There were dozens of BMX cyclists who lived here and were to ride the World Championship and did not get any sleep due to all the noise.

The service at the restaurant was tragic. It took a long time to order drinks and even longer to order food. After an hour the pizza finally arrived but it tasted like yesterday's frozen pie that had been heated in the microwave.

When you have to pay then the waitress totally ignores you.

A fun week!
Jul 2019 • Family
My husband and I stayed in one of the wooden bungalows with our 18 month old. The accommodation is basic but comes with a little kitchen including a fridge, stove, coffee machine and running water. The campsite itself is very crowded and the bathrooms/showers could do with some more consistent cleaning but there is a baby washroom with a little bathtub which was useful. The campsite shop has everything you need. The pool is really fun for children and adults alike (although very crowded at times)- there is also a lovely little baby paddle pool and slide area which our son loved!
The lake and surrounding woodlands are lovely and the area itself is great for day trips. We went across the border to Maastricht in the Netherlands as it’s only half an hour away! Also went to Antwerp one day which is a bit further but well worth it for the zoo and old town. There is also the German city of Aachen very close by.
The restaurant onsite is a bit overpriced for the quality, but we mainly did our own cooking in the hut anyway.
Overall I don’t know why the reviews are so negative- it is a busy campsite after all so don’t expect luxury. We had a very enjoyable week here nonetheless 🙂
