This was a hidden gem that was suggested by the Blue Dolphin Hotel.
Not knowing what to expect just blew the three of us away.
From the quaint courtyard to sit and have a beverage of your choice prior to entering the exhibit.
Then learning some fascinating history of this area of Greece and then to be mesmerized by the story that was told along with the beautiful instruments and song was truly enchanting.
This is a must visit along with the town, fantastic restaurants and shops.
I'd put this on everyone's list as a must visit/see and do no matter what the age or likes or dislikes.

Highly entertaining musical and cultural demonstration and you join in. This is a demonstration of Greek musical instruments, beautifully played and sung by a talented artist, Yanis. Pantazis and threaded together by tales of Greek mythology and linguistic links to everyday English words. Suitable for young and old alike as long as you can beat a drum or shake bells. A very enjoyable and surprising way to spend an hour.

Our family of four (two girls, 1st and 4th grade) were wandering around Megalochori and stumbled into this gem in July of 2021. The couple who runs the Symposium were incredibly warm and welcoming. We had a great time learning about Greek words and local history, experimenting with instruments, and even building a flute-like instrument in the kids workshop. I would highly recommend this place!

My sister and I had the pleasure of attending Symposion's Clio's Tales live performance in the courtyard last Friday - and it was absolutely magical! We ordered some oinomelos - one of Symposion's Homeric wines - and listened to Yannis play the kythara (proto-guitar) and several flutes (in loose terms, I need to read up on those! :D) like a time-traveler FROM Ancient Greece! Absolutely recommended to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the spirit of the era of myths and legends:)

We had an enchanted break at Symposion in Megalochori. Everything is beauty and harmony in this plant and mineral setting. It was a pleasure talking with Yannis, owner of this place, and we had the incredible chance to be musicians for a little concert. A wonderful experience!

We were staying a short distance away from Symposion and when we walked past their door saw a notice advertising a concert that evening. We were expecting a piano based classical music concert but instead were treated to 'Odysseus Returns' - a remarkable performance. Yiannis plays his own compositions on 10 different handcrafted instruments. The music was just wonderful and we were transported to ancient Greece for an hour. If it hadn't been our last day in Santorini we would have returned again that week. Other people we talked from the USA visit there regularly and recommended the instrument building workshops,. Definitely recommend as something different to do in Santorini which interacts with the culture of Greece and the islands. Lovely courtyard and enjoyed a delicious glass of wine.

I highly recommend this interactive experience as a way to build on your knowledge of Greece. Presented in a historic building that was once a winery, Yannis and Argy talk about life and myth in ancient Greece and how it connects all things. They have put together an experience that touches all the senses that is very impressive and unforgettable.

This was a wonderful place to celebrate part of our 20th wedding anniversary.

Listening to Yiannis and his homemade instruments took us to another world. The sound was so beautiful and it was an experience being able to try playing the harp

They were great hosts too. We felt like we had known them for years.

We bought a CD and it brings us back to the Symposion each time we listen to it.

It was an adventure, informative and fun. Thank you for wonderful memories.

We attended the tour and musical presentation, followed by the workshop making our own Greek panpipes, and loved both experiences!
Yannis is a very talented musician and the way he combined the music with Greek mythology storytelling was fascinating.
If you want a totally different kind of santorini cultural experience, unique to anything else on the island, then please visit Symposion. The handmade panpipes make an excellent souvenir.

I visited Yiannis as part of a tour and had no prior expectations. Yiannis is amazing to be able to make the instruments and play them and be so engaging. I would just suggest that you remember to tell him if you play an instrument. I had a really enjoyable time. Highly recommended.
