This was an absolutely delightful day touring Megalochori, leaning about anhydrous farming, wine tasting the really unique flavors of Greek wine, and cooking a fantastic vegetarian meal. It was one of the major highlights of my trip. I am only bummed I didn’t take any photos of the beautiful courtyard setting where we are our meal under a giant tree—it was a really magical way to pass the afternoon chatting with new friends, learning about Greek cuisine, and just relaxing. Anna, our guide, was wonderful! She was an expert at getting to know members of the group, keeping conversation flowing, and making sure everyone had a great time. This was great for me, as I joined the group solo while waiting for my friends to arrive in Santorini from another island—I felt included and had a great time. If you’re on the fence, don’t be—go on this trip!

We had this tour the day we arrived in Santorini and we couldn't have chosen a better way to start off! Anna, our tour guide, was absolutely amazing and felt like our friend by the end of the tour. We started off at a vineyard where she explained how the grapes grow in Santorini. Then we walked through a quaint town to a small winery where we tasted 4 great wines and had dakos (dried barley rusk) and cheese. Anna was extremely knowledgeable about wine and made it such a fun experience. We then went to Mr. Petro's tomato farm. which was life changing. The boys cooked lunch while the girls drank wine :) They made tomato fritters (SO good), fava dip, greek salad, and fried white eggplant (specific to Santorini) and zucchini (which was so sweet and delicious). Everything tasted so fresh and we spent hours eating and drinking together. Mr. Petro makes delicious tomato paste, sun dried tomatoes, and an amazing sweet tomato sauce, almost like a cherry sauce, which we ate with Greek yogurt. Every way the tomatoes were prepared were absolutely delicious. My husband now eats tomatoes, although nothing at home will ever compare! Mr. Petro joined us at the end and he is the sweetest and most charismatic man you'll ever meet. We would have stayed longer but the food coma was calling us to the last winery. The last winery, which has a very interesting museum inside, was on a hillside and they provided blankets as it was quite windy. We had a glass of red wine and some cheese, salami, and more tomatoes. The sunset here was beautiful and it was a great way to end an amazing experience. Thank you Anna and Mr. Petro for having this tour, we can't imagine how any other tour could possibly be any better!

We really enjoyed this tour which we took from Oia. Megalochori, wine, food, more wine, sunset. Anna was great, very personable & welcoming, and passionate about this side of Santorini. Well worth the time & money to see something more of Santorini than the caldera.

It's a fun, slightly disjointed tour that will leave you full of wine and tomatoes. The tomatoes are good: fresh, sun-dried, paste, fried, or as marmalade. Very distinctive. Wine is a bit oversold, as wine often is. Highly mineral thanks to volcanic soil. If that's your taste, you'll love it. Overall about 25% too long (a common problem here). A fine group with an enthusiastic and mostly understandable guide. Beats walking Thira or Oia.
