98% of the beach is occupied by sunbeds from hotel Patmos Aktis leaving a disgraceful 20 meters of beachf or other tourists and locals. They say they have a lease. You can't own a public beach, but they relentlessly occupy everthing (Btw If they are so kind as to let you rent 2 sunbeds, they charge a riduculous 50 euro) Patmos the new Mykonos?

Giros bay has a good beach for swimming and the area has many walking tracks that lead to interesting places, thevlocal maps have the tracks marked in green. We did the climb Chora to visit the monitory and old town, it's well worth the walk or you can take the local bus if you wish. There is plenty to keep you interested in the local area,

Patmos is a lovely island that will pull you in like a magnet. Its spirituality and aura are like no other! The beaches offer only clear and calm waters.

This was our local beach as the hotel was right on it. It sits in a really special bay with views of the hills, The Rock and visiting yachts. Very fine grit rather than soft sand. Gently shelving seabed with quite a few fish to see if you are in to snorkeling. The sunbeds and umbrellas were good quality with free iced water and towels provided. If you weren't staying in the hotel you could still use them but at a significant charge.

Grikos bay is lovely to spend a day there the water is clear and always calm because it is protected by an island . Several Tavernas in close proximity no shops.

Patmos island is usually beaten by strong winds so the quiet
beaches, where you may swim safely, are not so many. One of
them is definitely Grikos. At a small distance from Skala, it's connected with it by bus services.
Very popular to the locals too, it's quite busy. There is a big hotel with umbrellas and loungers and I'm sure you may rent them for the day.
There are also a lot of big trees, offering dense shadow for many people.
The beach is public and free. Tiny pebbles with sand. A lot of free parking, very close to the beach. The water is clear and nice. But take care because there are thick seaweeds at a certain point covering invisible small rocks with urchins. In case you step on them, you'll have to remove them one by one!
There are enough taverns for a meal or a coffee and hotels of every category.

Beautiful, but beach rather gritty and some weed in the sea. Some areas had sun beds belonging to a hotel, a little shade provided by trees.

Not great swimming unless you dont mind wading through water weed, and half the beach is taken up by vehicles with most of the rest occupied by a luxury hotel whose recliners cost a whopping €10 each, and very little space otherwise available. Nevertheless, extremely good for very small kids because it is very safe and shallow. Not brilliant for swimming though, for the same reasons. There is a taverna or two or you can have very good (if a little pricey) light bite from the hotel bar. Get there easily by bus, €1.80 per person one way.

We arrived to see if we could swim but we preferred not to stay long since the beach is close to the boats so the water is not very clear and has an unpleasant smell.
