Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

Visited with family, mid-morning in August. It was a good alternative activity (i.e. out of the sun and away from the pool/sea for a bit). Allow about 60-90 minutes to get round, depending on how engaged with the information you're likely to be. Slightly bemused...More

I would recommend it for a family with kids. I went there with two kids of 11 and 8. We hired a audio guide for each which I would recommend. You can choose from a variety of languages, not only the most common ones. The...More

it is a nice place to visit with kids who like to see sea creatures. it is also placed in the same area as the dinosaures park and the planetarium. so you can visit all at the same day.

You need to visit this place if you are in Crete. Cheap ticket to enter and easy to find it on the map. We loved the sharks.

Built among the ghost town of an abandoned army base, the Cretaquarium is most definitely worth a visit. Entry was 9Euro for adults and 6 Euro for children and most definitely worth it. The kids loved seeing all the different creature from the tiny camoflage...More
