About
Crete’s aquarium, CRETAquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the CRETAquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

Lovely Aquarium
Lovely aquarium- was busy when we went due to the poor weather but was well organised and very covid friendly. Easy to find, lots to look at and kept the kids busy for an hour

Definetely must see place!
Amazing place! definetely must see on Crete! many oceanic species, some of them very unique! All well looked after. Just I would add some more information under every fish. but it was really nice experience for really good price comparable to many this kind of places in United Kingdom!

Overpriced
Oct 2021 • Family
My family found the aquarium rather small for the price. It had mostly "standard" fish plus one shark & 2 sea turtles. We had to work hard to stretch our visit to 1 hr.

Stopped on our way to Heraklion - what a fabulous place - showed all manner of local and Mediterranean sea-life. Huge tanks with sharks, Moray eels and turtles. The jelly fish tank and the octopus tank were really fascinating. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

The biggest aquarium in Greece, which need a renovation.
Sep 2021
We decided to buy a tickets to this aquarium because is known as the biggest one in Greece. We expected very big exposition and long walk around the all aquariums. During the walk you can see a lot of beutiful fishes and creaturs, which are living in the Mediterranean Sea. There is a small exhibition about scuba diving history and turtles. In the centre of building is a one big aquarium with shark and biggest fishes. All other aquariums are around big one. Many languages are available for tourist, which is a big plus. The walk is very quick, this was cost us no more than 1-1.5 h. To be honest, as we were thinking that is the biggest aquarium in Greece, we expected very big modern building with all high quality aquariums but we got small exhibition with old styled design. We think, this was just loosed time for us and next time we would not decided to visit this place.

Thanks for the visit and valuable comments. Our main facilities actually date back to 2005. However, we are constantly trying to evolve and renew ourselves, hosting new species and expanding our tanks. Also, in recent years we have introduced a new service, that of virtual reality that has been especially loved by adults and children, as well as a new store inside the aquarium. To these we could add the rich educational programs and guided tours by arrangement. We hope that on your next visit you will be able to get a taste of what will probably change your experience.

Nice day out. It was different . Really enjoyed ourselves. The best aquarium I have ever been to by far. It's quite a large aquarium and the sea life here is incredible such a beautiful place to visit.

Sea 🌊 adventures 🌊 in Crete 🏜 on land

Great place, good atmosphere. A lot of things to see, audio guides where good. The only issue is the road from the main streat is far and dusty if you come by bus, we solved the issue by taking a taxi cab. 5/5 still, would see it again with other friends. Meditereanean sea life, digital sea turtles, finding Nemo experience, good story telling.

Very good small aquarium
Aug 2021
About half an hour away from Heraklion city, it's a must-see attraction if you stay in Crete. It's rather small aquarium but it has the most common fish spices of greek seas.
Excellent for children.

Good visit
A great place to take you g kids. We didn’t pay for the audio guide but we’re fine without it. There was only 1 shark that we saw, which was a slight disappointment to our sons. But, the sea turtles and other exhibits were good.
