Definitely Visit this place
Feb 2020
Visited on 21 February 2020 on Maha Shiv Ratri

From the main square take a tuk tuk/ auto at SLR 300/- to and fro to this attraction. distance about 3-4 kms.

This is an impressive place with mixed architecture and a grad statute of Lord Buddha meditating. The place has temples of many Hindu gods and goddesses as well and due to the auspicious day it was crowded.

We offered puja at the place and spend some peaceful time at this temple complex.

The temple complex is a definite visit to the tourist visiting Bentota.

Stunning!
Jan 2020
It is quite rare to have a painted outdoor Buddha so this is a hugely impressive sight. You can also go inside the temple and see all the paintings and carvings, not just look at the statue. There are also a number of fruit vendors that line the walk entrance, since it is customary to give a food offering to Buddha when visiting. This makes the place a joyful riot of colour. I went early morning before 10am and it wasn't too hot and no crowds.

Good and peaceful place

Amazed by the big buddha statue. Did not have plans to visit this place but can driver brought us here. Was amazed at how big the statue was. There was an elephant outside as well. Cleanliness was good around the temple but the wash room area was too bad. I really did not understand the concept of entrance fee for a temple. Temples are areas of worship and there should not be an entry fee for it. Good and a very peaceful place to spend some time.

Amazing Temple

Yet another HUGE temple & religious site - decency of dress is important here to respect their religious views - large crowds at this Hindu temple having their baskets & plates of food blessed-it is interesting to see how such a cross section of ages have such respect for religion & how different from the ‘Western World’

A Main Buddhist Temple
Jul 2019 • Couples
Kande Vihara Temple is very famous among the Sri Lankan's for Poojas to (Pay tribute) to Devotees (Mainly Hindu devotees). There is a Main Bikku training center (Pirivena) in this sacred place to serving Buddhist Dhamma. You should go there morning or evening time because of the heavy heat environment in there. The Vihara has ancient paintings and old Sri lankan style building architect.

Absolutely cruel
Jun 2019 • Solo
While the Buddha sits beautifully the chained (2 chained feet) elephant which can barely move was a really distressing site totally incompatible with Buddhist tenets. An experience which should have been enlightening and soul nurturing proved to be totally upsetting
