I'd been promising myself a visit to this museum for years and finally last year I got there - it was well worth waiting for!
Established in 1982 the museum is housed in an old two storey house and depicts middle Corfu from 1860-1960.
At the very top of Sinarades, past the square, and follow the blue sign for the museum. Lots of lovely old buildings to wonder over enroute.
Entrance to the museum is up the staircase and onto the “bontzos” (veranda). A friendly guide will take the small entrance fee and issue a ticket. The first floor represents a kitchen, a dining room, a hall and a bedroom.
The upper floor is reached by an internal staircase this floor is dedicated to numerous 'folk' sections..ie...
Shoe-making workshop/Corfu costumes and musical instruments/fishing/ etc,
This museum houses a plethora of artificats and examples of life in middle-Corfu from 1860-1960. An example of a Papyrella, a boat made of Papyrus and used on the N.West Coast until WWII
An object which sticks to mind is the 'Sela'...a saddle type chair one which a woman sat when giving birth...used right up until 1945!
Do try to visit this museum, enjoy a coffee in one of the many kafenions and watch village life.
The Sinarades Folklore Museum is open daily (from May to October), except for Mondays, from 9.30am till 2.00 pm (tel. 26610-54962).

We enjoyed our visit to this museum very much. It makes an interesting contrast to the 'Casa Parlante' in Corfu Town, which is an upper class home, whereas this shows how the working classes of the time lived. It is easy to find, up an alleyway opposite the church and is sign-posted. Only 2 euros to go in.

well worth the trip we took by bus from Corfu-town, enjoyed the village, but most of all this museum, small, but what a gem: lots of information, kind staff, really helpful and the entrance fee was low. A great way to see how people lived in rural Corfu not too long ago. When you visit the live history museum in Corfu town, you get to see how rich people lived in about that same period of time. You will notice some objects that are very similar, but made from other materials. Do ask the staff about this stuff, they love to give you more information about that and that makes your visit even more memorable!
After this visit: go have a bite in town (so freshly made!) and walk to the viewpoint before taking the bus back

This is a small house museum full of interesting objects. The visit was made particularly interesting by the enthusiastic guide who had a passion for the place and the stories surrounding it. Worth a visit.

A real gem of a museum with a highly informative attendant. It was so good to be able to ask lots of questions about the exhibits and Corfu. We were made to feel very welcome.

Lovely little slice of rural Corfu history. The rooms are set up as they would have been lived in in the past. Museum attendant was very enthusiastic and attentive and happy to answer questions. Definitely worth worth visiting on your trip!

I really enjoyed my visit, the guide was very knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy. It is quite small but well presented and very reasonable, I went twice.

A lovely little folklore museum in Sinarades village with very friendly and helpful staff.
You can walk around a traditional greek house where on the first floor, there is a representation of a rural house with living room, bedroom, kitchen, oven, and wine-pressing. An internal floor leads to the second floor, where there is a library, an archive of old documents, some pottery pieces, traditional costumes, musical instruments, a loom, agricultural tools, puppet theatre, and some photos.

the guide here is very knowledgeable about everything there, only small but lots to see, dont always rely on web opening and closing times, we went on a sunday when it was supposed to be closed, and it wasnt, they were expecting a party to arrive so we got chance to look around without coming back to the area later.
