A must trip finally did it the other year after years of watching the train go by, good fun day out with plenty to see and finishing up at a very wacky restaurant with great food.

We enjoyed this trip we were taken to a museum which was excellent with some old artefacts and information about how the Greeks used to live the guid was very informative and helpful we also visited the old church ,we then went to a local tavern where we had a Greek salad for lunch which was excellent and a jug of village wine which was lovely . Trainaki Guided Tour Pleasant trip from Alykes by road train to the foot of mount Kakia Rahi through ancient olive groves and arrive at the unspoilt village of Pigadakia. Visited the Vertzagio Folk Museum and the church of St. Panteleimona and it's healing waters. Some fascinating old memorabilia from rural Zante. The church was demolished in 1953 by the earthquake and only the bell tower remained intact. Tried the healing waters on the mozzy bites, bring an empty bottle to take some water with you. It doesn't smell too pleasant but it soon fades away. Enjoyed a simple lunch at Kakia Rahi taverna before returning through the vineyards to Alykes. I would recommend this short trip to to pass a few hours and learn about how life used to be in rural Zante. Remember to bring your camera/phone for photos.

Had a really nice half day, but the weather was against us unfortunately and we had rain of biblical proportions! The train picked us up from outside our hotel at around 20 past 11and we drove to the museum forts which had some really interesting pieces, then the heavens opened! Unfortunately it rained so heavily we were unable to visit the church but spent a fun couple of hours in the taverns where we tried the local wine (0.25l included in the price of the trip) and had the option to have some lunch (there is a €2 table charge on top of the price of your lunch which is easy to miss till you get your bill!). Brenda (our guide) was absolutely lovely and battled through the torrential rain and deafening thunder like a great trooper!! My only real complaint was that we had assumed we would be dropped back at our hotels, but we were left in Alykes. Al in all a good value half day out at €14 each.
