We wanted a wine tasting experience off of the beaten tourist track and also something less expensive. I found Quinta do Jalloto mentioned on a travellers blog as an option if travelling to Douro Valley by train from Porto, which we were.
Google maps says its a 51min 'walk' from Pinhao Station, which is technically true, but its less of a walk and more of a hike through vineyards on a dirt track with some parts quite strenuous. I'd say more like 80mins if you wanted to make it leisurely and stop a couple of times for a rest.
When we reached the Quinta for our 11am pre-booked (online) tasting and tapas, we were greeted by Marta who gave us water and let us get settled before giving us our mini tour. Its only a small Quinta, so it's more listening rather than seeing. Luckily, Marta was very engaging and welcoming. We were also the only people there for the first hour so it felt very personalised.
We were amazed to learn that they still produce their wines using traditional methods such as picking all grapes by hand and manually grape treading in a giant trough.
After around 30mins of info, we were left to taste three wines, a white, a rose and a red with some complimentary breads and their own olive oil and honey.
It would have been nice if Marta had explained a bit about the wines we were tasting but by then some tourists had arrived so it was quite busy.
Tapas for 4 was excellent and we ordered a bottle of red to drink with it which was incredible.
Overall, if you're looking for something a bit more special than going to a large corporate quinta, and if youre looking for a hike experience with amazing views, then pay Quinta do Jalloto a visit.
You can also take a taxi from Pinhao if you didn't want to do the hike.
Sitting on the terrace with the breathtaking views sipping on their small-scale produced delicious wine was perfection.
And absolutely outstanding value for money.
If I'm ever in the Douro Valley again, I'll be visiting here again.

An absolute must do. Just book it now, don't even hesitate. A small family owned winery and that makes all the difference. The tour was given by the winemaker's son, and his passion shown through. I learned so much and it was truly enjoyable. I felt like a member of the family in the one hour I spent there. You also actually walk into the vines and trees.
If that wasn't enough, the property has amazing views and the wine, olive oil and honey I sampled were some of the best I've ever had in my life.
I've been fortunate to travel quite a bit and don't remember everything I've been or done but this visit I will truly remember for the rest of my life.

We were looking for a complete contrast to the large scale corporately owned estates and we found it here. There were just 6 of us on our tour of the winery and our host Marta was charming, meaning we could ask questions and actually learn about port and wine production - how to tell the age of vines from how they are planted and the impact of climate change on the harvests. It's a beautiful peaceful spot with a stunning view down the Douro, just 15 mins drive up from Pinhao. We'd definitely recommend the tapas alongside the wine, port, honey and olive oil tasting as sitting there and eating and drinking in the view felt like a real privilege away from the crowds.

We were very disappointed in this visit. Not only did we find the wines substandard to just about everything else we have tried in Portugal, including house restaurant wine selections, the staff was very inattentive. We selected a table and our wine flights were brought out with a brief explanation. No one came out at any point to see if we needed anything or if we had further questions. There were only one or two other groups there, so it wasn’t because it was busy. The views were spectacular, but that is about all it had going for it. We didn’t even finish our wines.

Super nice experience at Quinta do Jalloto. First a simple tapas menu and then a fin talk about how to producere wine. Can absolutely be recommended. To get to the estate you will - at leaset summer time when it is hot ( like todays 40 degrees) - need a car. First there you will experience the wonderful vies over the flod/valley.

We only briefly stopped here since we were in a bit of a rush to make our boat tour. Pleasantly surprised to find that it's a nice family run vineyard and one of the sons was actually staffing it on our visit. The wines were very good quality, and we particularly appreciated the 10 year tawny. The visit, while brief, was quite memorable due to the excellent view from their balconies.

Small, but family run winery with very good wines and an amazing view of the Douro River. The outdoor patios and winery facilities were very modern. They clearly have a lot of passion in what they do and it shows in the wines as well.

My wife and I highly recommend a wine tour and tasting at Quinta do Jalloto. The small vineyard and winery is located in the hills just above Pinhão and is owned and operated by the Moreira family. The location of the winery is beautiful and the tour was very small and personal when compared with some of the large wineries in the Douro Valley. Antonio, one of the fifth generation brothers provided us with an in-depth look at both the key aspects of growing grapes on their Douro property and the tradition involved in making their wines. The winery has beautiful views over the Douro Valley, and we very much enjoyed the tour, tasting, and tapas with the tapas board also including olive oil from their trees. The indoor tasting area and outdoor patio were built to a very high aesthetic standard and add to the enjoyment of their excellent wines. If your visit to the Douro Valley brings you near Pinhão, a visit to Quinta do Jalloto will add to your understanding of the valley and its winemaking tradition. A special thank you to Antonio whose kindness was very much appreciated!

Too expensive for what is it.
20€ per person, should be 12€ in comparaison to what I saw in other better places in Douro.
We are paying for new investments and not for what we want to see and taste.
You can see the view 100meters before and in all the small village, not needed to go specifically there.

Hello,
How do I book a wine tour for Quinta do Jalloto? Or is it ok to just drop in?
Thanks,
